Description

Rathmines TS10082

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Rathmines.

Serial number is: TS10082.

Last Inspected on: March 31, 1976.

Elevation is: 1.765 metres.

Established by the Public Works Department for the Lake Macquarie Hydro Survey as PWD408.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Another nice spot for the kids to explore the area. Rathmines seems to have plenty of public spaces which is good. After checking out the war memorial and having a discussion about boats being able to fly, we checked out the nearby man cave and wandered over to this trig point.

This was a very popular spot over the weekend, and not because all the geocachers attending the Oz GeoMuster were Geocaching Australia players, but because the trig had information for a Lab cache. When No_Tomorrow and I turned up we could see people up near the memorial. Turns out it was a wedding. Up goes a cheer! They've said "I Do". We were then approached by a lady asking, in a whisper, if we were looking for the geocache at which point she indicates it's "just under that rock". We decide to stay away from the wedding party for now and leave them to it. Got to the trig, another cheer! They've signed their documents. On our way back up the hill we end up having a chat with the group behind the wedding - they're not dressed for the event but we couldn't work out what they were up to. Turns out they were a Pokemon Go group... popular time for geo games this weekend at Lake Macquarie.

Saturday we went in search of a couple of Lab caches away from home base but didn’t get past the first one. In fact, we nearly crashed a wedding party and definitely crashed a Pokemon Go party. Deciding to do the trig before the Lab or the nearby Trad so as not to intrude on the wedding ceremony, we had a good laugh at the name Shanno on the trig, just to find out moments later that it was the word we needed for the Lab. haha. Wedding ceremony finished, we wandered through the Pokemon Go Picnic and made the find.

The event this weekend was my first Mega and I really enjoyed it. Found plenty of geocaches and met lots of geocachers. This cache was one of my finds. Ziggiau drove while I tried to navigate and research our next location at the same time. haha.

#GA2628 - 13:05; Day two of the 2018 Oz Geomuster mission with Sol de lune. albida33 would be joining us today to hunt down the 'OZ GM' trail. Before hitting the road for the day though, there was time to catch up with a few more fellow cachers and perhaps sign a few more cacher logs. After breakfast, I headed around the traps with Sdl and we did indeed find some fine fellow cachers with their own cacher caches. We then hit the road and as well as working on the trail, we were hunting GC Lab caches as we went. One of them involved a visit to this trig, so we managed to kill two birds with the one stone here. Grabbed a couple of snaps before heading off again. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Found while completing the Lab caches for the Oz Geomuster event, an easy find as the lab cache was at the trig.

Day two of an Easter trip with LuckyL10n to the 2018 Morisset Mega. Headed up via the northern beach suburbs of Sydney to grab a few trigs and dragonZones along the way. Now onto the trig points around the lake.....

No problems with this one and the trig was soon spotted.

Another trig and another dragonZone crossed off. Thanks for the fun....

Nice trig, tastes better after 7 FTFs just now too! Smile

Our second trig for the day. The muggle fishing in the background of this photo wasn't even aware we were there. How's that for stealth? Although it doesn't really matter when you're only photographing a trig! Thanks.

The trig is found easily, after passing the nearby memorial to the catalina pilots and crews.
There's an interesting set of benches nearby. Made especially for a group of people who don't want to talk or look at each other. How odd!

I was not sure as to what I would find there but there it is in its full concrete glory. Can't really miss it and what a view.
This was well worth the long trip down here (3 trains and 2 buses!)
