Description

Crosswinds TS6139

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Crosswinds.

Serial number is: TS6139.

Last Inspected on: March 20, 1983.

Elevation is: 17 metres.

Trig is a concrete pillar with mast and vanes.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Trig can be spotted from the Pacific Highway looking west near a stopping bay on the northern side of Macksville Bridge. Best parking in stopping bay and walk up nearby track which was apparently once a road..very steep climb near gz and barbed wire at the top which greatly increases the difficulty level but trig can be photographed from the track.

Clan MinotaurClan MinotaurClan Minotaur one of several trigs we found today, whilst exploring the area.

Drove up the track beside the trig, became rocky at the top, then kept going down the other side, which was a grassy bank and out onto the street. Clan MinotaurClan MinotaurClan Minotaur

Stopping for Brekkie in Macksville is quite nice now that the through traffic has eased off.
Saw this one from the old highway but we entered the side streets in search of an easier walk. The first two were offered no path through private property, but the street directly to the north has a nice short grassy walk up to the trig. The older two decided that they wanted to keep driving and spotting the trig from the car was enough, so it was up to Dad and the youngest to make the walk. Great condition. Even the name plate is still in tact.

I grabbed a longer than usual shot after figuring it was on private property, then saw the track as we were rejoining the road. I'll get a proper image on the way back or next time.....

#GA2690 - 12:20; Day four of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune. After leaving the Mega yesterday afternoon and caching our way to Taree where we spent the night at a local caravan park, the plan for today was to cache our way north past Port Macquarie, then through Kempsey, Macksville, Urunga, Coffs Harbour, Grafton, Casino, Lismore and into Ballina in preparation for some caching around Byron and the Tweed before setting sail south again for home. Although not part of the original itinerary, I was able to collect a few more caches in Taree, which Sdl had picked up on previous visits. After a few stops along the way we were now in Macksville, where I collected the local CORS, before we made our way up the hill to this trig to grab a snap. Day 4 of a trek along the NSW coast to Tweed Heads after attending the Morisset event with LuckyL10n. Another day with lots of trigs grabbed...along with the odd traditional or two.

Took a bit of time to get into this one. One way was sort of blocked by muggles so we ended up visiting the funeral home and grabbing a photo through the trees. Look closely...the trig is there.

Thanks for another trig.....

Roadworks, changed conditions and traffic following close behind meant getting a trig pic from a moving vehicle was going to be as good it gets today. But how much better is Macksville now it's off the highway?!! Very Happy

A nice little wander up from the north and this one was in the bag.

Driving north to my parents' place after dad recovers from an operation, I had spotted this on the way south a few weeks ago but no chance to stop. Today I did stop on the way north and walked up the hill. Two shots, one of the trig and one of the iPhone not clearly showing the coords in front of the trig. Thanks. 2013 hide it also counts as a scavenge which as good as the 2 physical ones in the area from that year seem to be missing.

Walked up the hill from the North to find this trig. It looks like 1970s vintage with concrete pedestal and stainless steel instrument mount carrying the white post and black vanes. It's completely intact including the nameplate marked "Central Mapping Authority Geodetic Staion Crosswinds". Vanes in good condition and look like they've been repainted in recent years. Good sightlines to almost 360 degrees.

I was fully intending to walk to this trig today but it was pouring rain so drove down a side street and snapped my photo. Maybe next trip. Smile

Interesting this 1 – should followed my GPS on this 1 – showed the trail but I went into side street & I think I walked across private property to this 1 - OOPS

I am sure that several years ago that I ran up the hill from the south and photographed this while the family waited in the car. Anyway came back (from the North today) to get the shot for this one.
Thanks again Earthly65
Nice to see the nameplate in place compared to MANY that I found today.

A short but uphill walk and we were very close. Thanks.
