Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and to photograph it.

Official Code: TS5095

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

We spotted it on our way back to the caravan park, after eating fish and chips down near the beach. I even got a bird sitting there in the photo! TFTT

We stopped here for a quick photo TFTC

Sophoutloud and I are on a bit of a road trip on our way to Lennox Head for a conference, it gave us an excuse to have a mini holiday and take a few days to get there. So for us that always means finding caches and trigs on our travels. This trip so far has been great as we have had the chance to visit a bunch of beautiful Northern New South Wales Beach towns. Being the off season they have been pretty quiet and even though it is June, much warmer than at home in the Hawkesbury. Nambucca Heads although surprisingly hilly is a stunning town and had enough for us to do and see to keep us busy for the afternoon. There were only the two trigs here that we managed to get fairly easily and you could see them from each end. A quick roadside photo for this one. It looks as though it has lost its vanes but you can still see the tripod still up there.

We came down to Nambucca Heads in the hour before sunset for a few caches and trigs, cleaning out the GA finds in the area....
We grabbed a quick pair of pics just on sunset.

A fairly quick detour from the main road for this one.

14-Aug-20
Quick find on a look around the town

found it whilst traveling south

Note: Photo didn't load with log through app. Photo lost.

A quick snap of the tripod, looks like the vanes are missing on this one.
Our only GCA cache to get in town today as we grabbed the others during our last visit.
Think we are in GCA caching wilderness at the moment but it looks promising a bit further south.
Thanks.

Well, the legs are there, but the vanes may be missing. Still, I've seen worse looking trigs....

Driving through Nambucca today, saw the prominent trig point. Is a triangular structure really a trig? Did it ever used to be as I spotted one on another water tower back the other side of town towards Coffs Harbour with an identical triangular structure. This may be wishful thinking unless it is proved it was/is a trigpoint, but if it is listed and other have claimed I might as well get a smiley as well - though I think it needs more checking.

While the sun hadn't set when I took the photo here it was so overcast it was hard to get a good shot. Saw the tripod for the trig, so all 'kosher'. Thanks Earthly65 for the initial trig being published, and hope you don't mind it being pirated.

'Moving' the earlier doubled trig of Nambucca (down at the point) to a Water reservoir some 600 m NW.
Go get it!
