Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself. This trig point is formed with a very large pile of rocks with a wooden post in the centre.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

A long day with pushing the bike up the hills. Found a heap of caches before heading to this one, picking up the 3 others on the way.
At least now, most of the ride back to the cachemobile/bike transporter will be downhill from here.
Thanks for the trig!

While helping fellow Cacher plant three new caches in the area a Trig point was found Flagstaff Hill, a picture was required for the proof of visit, TFTC TNLN cairn still there. Lil Rafa just had to climb up on top.

My goodness, what a slog up the hill in the hot sun, from Caves Hill (Rocky Meehan) at high noon today!

Very disappointed that there was no bus stop, taxi rank, helipad, cable car, or sherpas at Rocky Meehan to assist our ascent!
None the less, 10 minutes after arriving, we'd all but forgotten the climb (or perhaps erased it from the memory), and we soon heading back towards Me an' 6. Yeah, okay, it's only a hill, don't be put off, it's well worth the effort.

Me an' Lil Rafa with geoGSP were trekking the Me an' Range today, and did appreciate the views, once we finally arrived. THANKS.

(Interestingly, my TASMAP 1:25,000 series 'Hobart' sheet 5225 Edition 1 1983, shows this as Rocky Tom)

This little trigpoint was included in the list of caches that were on the 'to do' list for today. The GeoGSP and I headed off on a little celebratory walk with EeePees who was celebrating an anniversary, meeting at Belbins Rd and heading off into the Meehan range. I'd ticked off of a few in the Meehan Range earlier in the year, so I was keen to tick off a few more and perhaps find one that was a bit further afield that I didn't want to hike to by myself. This little trigpoint was one that we identified as being 'on the way'.......well let's just say it was a bit of a hike, but I'm glad that we were able to find a nice track (albeit uphill) that took us pretty much to the top. The sun was out on the way up the hill so I was pretty much cooked by the time we got to the trigpoint but the views were worth it, and I totally need to exercise.

This was big detour for us of the main trail which involved some fun and games along with yet more up hillness, but the view from up here is well worth the work, of the 22 caches we found today I would put this as the 2nd best due to this. We came of the main trail and followed a path until we came across a trio of diggers then spotted a trail they had removed and before long we were at the top along the way spotting some colourful song birds. the view from the top is outstanding.

thanks for the cache.

A full day out walking with stainless-steel-rat, TazScout. We got to within 600 metres ad we cached the Meehan series so decided we had to make the side trip to log this. We climbed up the side of the hill up a reasonable track that ended in a pile of rocks. We made our way through these rocks and ended up in a quarry. After a bit of a look we climbed the bank and found the track again on the other side of the quarry. As our route was a bit circular we still had 600m to go from the quarry. We eventually made it and were quite amused at the actual trig point. The views were fantastic and we decided it was well worth the walk up here.

On a whim, I not only attended the event, but did a really great jog/walk (very much a mix) to Craigow Hill first then back to this trigpoint from the top of Flagstaff Gully Rd. I did zippo preparation and was glad all went smoothly because in the wilds up there, I start to think what if.. and I really didn't have much with me because I was just out for a jog. Coming back from Craigow, I went up and over the adjacent hill which seemed to work out quite well. I'm sure it saved a bit of up or down. The views in all different directions at different times were fantastic. They're both interesting trigs too! Thanks for placing the cache wilco, it's been one I've wanted to do for some time.

Mr W set out from Belbins Road to finish the Meehan Series and to get to Rocky Meehan via this trig point. Had a good morning. Some great views from the trip point. Unfortunately he ran out of legs and will have to return to get the Craigow Trig.

Today, with Mrs y'stassie at a two day embroidery workshop, Mr y'stassie had an opportunity to look for some caches which required extended walks. After finding another cache in the Meehan Range area, Mr y'stassie continued on - uphill - to get to this vanatge point. It was quite a slog towards the end but the views from the top made the effort really worthwhile. This isn't a traditional trig point and it doesn't have a ST number. It is designated in Lands Department records as 508/060. We will endeavour to find out more detail about this location. A photo, with our GPS on the cairn, has been aded to the Gallery. TFTC

I accessed this trig point by parking at the end of Belbin's Road in Cambridge and walking along the Stringy Bark Gully track, up a short and rocky, very steep hill, past the top of the quarry located at the end of Flagstaff Gully Road and on to the trig point which is located just to the left of the track.
