Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

There are two Trig Points here one is NELSON MT ST67MAST The Flag Pole and the other is NELSON MT ST67 a disk in the ground.

Thanks for the trig. The mast wasn't here when I last looked - it was being refurbished apparently.

Out with RLD4963 and the GeoGSP. Nice little history lesson from the caretaker who was taking down the flags just after we had taken the obligatory photos. This place has some of the best views of Hobart.

08-Feb-17
Stopped by here at 18:10 while trying to find the answer to a confusing multi nearby. At least this was nice and easy and the views were the icing on the cake. Very Happy

Thanks Geocaching Australia.

Another almost-drive-up-to-it trig. Gotta love 'em. Here for other cachey reasons at which we failed miserably so it was a good thing this was an easy nab. Magical views as always, even with the smoke haze.

05-Oct-15
Couldn't miss this trig.

Meet up with Goose from Gooseandegg to do a night cache and just had to grab this great trig point, unlike other trigs where i end up on my hands and knees looking in the grass/bushes this one was an easy spot.

Thanks very much for the interesting view.

last GCA find of a quiet month for us. Found with Mr and Mrs SSR before a GC multi adventure. Great views of the city and beyond in the fading light and even better as we returned in the dark. TFTT

I knew I took a photo of this ST quite some time ago but I spent ages looking for it when I should have just come up the road and retake the photo. Which I ended up doing anyway...
Thanks Alby

19-Nov-13
I visited Mt Nelson today and photographed the semaphore tower. The sunny morning was beginning to deteriorate into a colder afternoon and cloud was blowing in veils across the view from Mt Nelson.

17-Nov-13
Now others have found it I will log a find.

05-Nov-13
Not much of a walk to this trig although the gate was closed, so it was more than it might have been! Thanks for listing it Alby.

30-Oct-13
Had a calender day to fill so wandered out at lunch time and collected this trig. Took a few moments to find the brass plug, which I was surprised to see was a SPM not a ST

Photographes attached
