Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

As stated in this description, this Trig Point survey marker consists of a "brass mushroom SPM in concrete block in concrete cover box".

Once I got to the high point along this road, I knew that this trig point must be close by and sure enough, there it was. Usually I take a selfie of me but today you only get my phone/GPS and the trig. TFTC.

Just a quick visit for an easy find. The survey mark is under a concrete lid which is best not to be removed in case it gets broken.
Tftc...cheers ST.

A rare visit to Bridport, briefly stopped by for the obligatory photograph.. thanks..!!

29-Jun-17
Had an unexpected trip to Launceston for a family bereavement and today, we took a drive to look around and to gather some caches as we went.
This was the tenth find of the day with my mate Don, a muggle friend who enjoyed his first day caching.
It was Sainted at 1538hrs after a quick search and find.
No muggles made for an easy find - Don searched and found the cache while I "supervised." A big smile on his dial made this a memorable cache.
When its lid was removed, the disc was covered with water. Necessary photographs were taken and the lid replaced, splattering me with MUD. The price one pays to Geocache!!!
Cheers and thanks for the cache

Didn't remove the middle section to reveal the disc as it was raining, the hole you put your finger in to lift it was full of mud and a couple of slugs and it wouldn't budge easily. So this is the best I could do. Thanks.

A quick find on my way through to G-Town from Cape Portland.
The pit has a fair amount of water in it and makes photography difficult.

04-Jan-15
#GA302 - 12:10; I was out and about in Bridport checking out the crowds in town for a triathlon and decided to grab a few photos for some locationless caches and noticed I still had to bag this trig. Took a short detour and soon found myself parked at GZ and getting the photographic evidence of the find. It was a bit waterlogged today after some early showers, but no problem otherwise.
