Description

Trig points typically consist of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. They are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape.

This is one of only three church spires in Tasmania which have been designated as State Trig points.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

Hoping to collect some ammunition for the Battleships Game we headed out today to reload our cannon in preperation for firing.

Required pic has been added to the gallery.

Beautiful spire. Dad was a mine surveyor for 35+ years, so I grew up with theodolites, transects and trig points

23-Nov-19
Today was a bit of a clean up day for local trigs that I just hadn't got around to visiting. Photo attached.

Hey, thanks for the trig.
Killing time this evening before dinner out, so popped by.
It's a really different view at the moment, as per the attached pic.

#GA2856 - 17:30; The plan for today was to head down to the Tasman Peninsula for some sightseeing and perhaps a cache or two. Driving through Sorell, the geohoney and I both commented on how much it had grown since our last visit about 5 years ago, before grabbing a coffee at Macca's on the way through. Stopped to refuel in Dunalley, which surprisingly had the cheapest diesel I had since since arriving in Tasmania on Saturday. After we finished our tour, we took the tourist track through Carlton River and on through Dodges Ferry and Lewisham. Headed for Sandy Bay when we reached the city again and dropped into Battery Point on our way back to the hotel to grab a snap of this lovely old church. Another find and a different icon while in Hobart attending an event. What a beautiful church and I haven’t been here before even thought I lived in Hobart for 5 years in the 1980’s.

17-Jan-18
Found while walking to an event and admiring the houses and old English village feel of the area.

16-Jun-17
Found on a morning walk around Battery Point.

17-Mar-17
Mr T photographed St George's spire while out for lunchtime walk, although we have quite a lot of photos from in front of St George's as Mr & Mrs T were married here 22 years ago. TFTC

28-Dec-16
I found this geocache with Mummy and caughtatwork while we were on holiday in Hobart for the Christmas week. Thank you for this geocache which kept us entertained while we were on holidays.

28-Dec-16
Another nice location for a visit while in Hobart on holidays. Very unusual to see a spire used as a trigpoint but if makes the capture on a suburban street so much easier than climbing a mountain. Photo attached as required.

26-Nov-16
This is the third church spire trig I have seen; the others being in Carcoar and Camden, NSW.

04-Aug-16
Easy to spot. TFTT

24-Jun-15
Quick find while out on a night cache run

10-May-15
After nabbing both St Mary's & St Joseph's, this completes our trilogy of church spire trigs in Tas. Definitely the most prominent of the three. In fact we can see it from mother (in-law)'s unit over yonder. Doing some other "mothers day-ish" stuff just up the road so this was a nice walk-up "find" with the non-caching gear on.

18-Nov-14
While doing a GC cache in This area a Trig Point that was the spire was noticed, so a picture was taken as proof of visit. the church was un renovation back in 2014.

03-Nov-14
After some DNFs on GC caches I thought it was time to get a cache I can 'find' for sure.

I stopped by this 'unusual' trig point at 15:55 while on my walk around this area this afternoon. What a grand old church. Very Happy

Thanks Geocaching Australia.

22-Sep-14
Took the picture quite some time ago but just haven't got round to logging this trig.
My Great-Grandfather on mums side (Allan Bennett) was the rector here at St George's when Nanna was a young woman.

21-Aug-14
A quick find while waiting for a dental appointment for the littlest red tag ! Very Happy

18-Jul-14
I walked up from the office at lunchtime to 'find' this Battery Point Landmark.

11-Jun-14
A nice easy find obviously lol while on afternoon shift. Thanks for listing this one

05-Jan-14
Quick drive by trig point and on a sunday with a service in progress

04-Jan-14
A wedding was about to take place when we visited and parking in the area was very scarce but we got a spot. TFTT

25-Dec-13
Found on dusk, pic to follow

25-Nov-13
A nice old church, and I guess it's a TP because of its prominent place on the top of the hill.

19-Nov-13
I wasn't the only one taking photos of the spire today, but the other fellow looked like he was more serious about his camera equipment!

12-Nov-13
Sainted at 0748hrs.
This church looks great under flood lights!
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

found one of these ftf trig

27-Oct-13
We always loved this old church - so dominant on the landscape. To have recently discovered that it was also a trig point was a real bonus. Thanks Dippy.

25-Oct-13
Thanks to 2y's who originally told me about the 3 church spires in Tasmania that are trigs - I find that interesting. The garden at the front is lovely at the moment too.
