Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the centre point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

There are, however, a number of trig points which are not beacons.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Additional Information

This State Trig point is located in a patch of bush behind the Wee Georgie Wood railway yard at Tullah. The yard can be accessed from the highway through Tullah. Once in the yard, goto S41 43.746 E145 37.382 where a rough track can be found leading to the trig point. The ST1121 brass button is fixed to a rock and surrounded by moss.

As this State Trig does not have an official name, this cache has been named "Tullah  ST1121". Further information can be obtained from the SurCom database from the Tullah ST1121 link.

#GA4069 - 12:35; Today's mission was to collect finds in the four remaining dragonZones on the Tasmanian 'mainland', so I headed off early for Rosebery, stopping off for a catch-up with a fellow cacher in Ulverstone on the outward journey. Now on the homeward journey and after collecting a cache nearby, headed over the road for this trig. Got close before a bit of bush bashing to get to GZ and grab a snap or two. As usual found the easier way back out! TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

We had planned to come North to visit family in Launceston over the weekend but decided to take the long way detouring via Sisters Creek and Tullah to collect 2 dragon zones we did not have. Along the way we targeted a few caches and this was one of them. This trig gave us a find in the West Coast zone. There were so many caches we went past as time was limited, but it gives us a reason to return. We travelled over 700 km and are still not home. TFTT

Quick find while on our way to Strahan after leaving Cradle Mountain this morning.

Found with TazScout and stainless-steel-rat on our way to the Australia Day event. We were concerned about how far we might have to venture into the bush but luckily it wasn't too far in. Great to add another trig to our find list.

Another new one for me and we were all pleased to find that this trig wasnt to far into the bush.

Spotted by Goose and we soon uncovered it by moving the moss.

I parked the car on a dirt road and followed the train line a short distance, before the short walk through the bush to GZ. Just a red mark.

After having been up and to Mt Farrell and Lake Herbert, I checked into the Lodge then popped out for the other couple of caches. Enjoyed the stroll to this one. There was a bit of smoke in the air so the sunset was lovely.

First for the day as we head home after a long weekend travelling through the lakes and back via the west coast. After a short walk along what looked like an animal track we were at GZ. Grabbed the photo and then wandered around the Wee Georgie Wood area. We had a ride on the little train last time we were down here but it wasn't running today. Free camping for self contained vehicles is allowed here but not advertised other than a notice on the station building. Thanks.

I think we may have taken the harder way to this one. Much easier way out. Very interesting spot to have a look around.

Hmmm why do we tend to find the hardest way in, but once at GZ there is always the obvious and easiest way in looking you right in the face Confused
