Description

Boyne Trig

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Had a big day trip down this way – needed to complete maintenance on my 2 off caches at Wairo Beach so after that I travelled further south to this trig – this ended up being the highlight of the day. It couldn’t get any better – a remote location & throw in a little off-road adventure – BANG you have a TRIG with remoteness & views to boot. It couldn’t get any better than that. Many thanks Canberra_bushwalker for publishing this amazing trig – as I keep saying the least found end up being the TOP 1’s to find – thanks again

This was to be the highlight of the day as I knew Pa wouldn't detour this far off the road if he was the chauffeur. Went too far up Monkey Mountain Road but luckily I was given directions where I went wrong. From Albida's log I guessed when I came to the next turn off and quickly put the car in 4WD. The road was interesting but not nearly as thought provoking as the next part of the trip back down the mountain to the coast. It had rained and I encountered deep water holes, clay sections and some steep narrow sections which once I completed, I discovered a Road Closed sign at the far end!!! Fun!! As for the trig it was found hiding behind the towers. TFTT Clan CerberusClan CerberusClan Cerberus

Before heading home I thought I would see what happened if I came up here. Most of the roads were pretty good, just the first bit of the final track was steep. I was happy the trig had escaped the building of the towers.

Thanks
Albida

An early start for this one and the hilux got us all the way to the top without any troubles.
I got to the top at about 0615hrs and yes it was still dark. Thought about hanging around for the sunrise, but headed off.
Great Telstra mobile phone reception up here! Very Happy

This trig does not appear to be registered so here it is. Access is via Monkey Mountain Road, then look out for a minor road called "Old Coach Road". Narrow but no 4WD needed. This takes you past the mountain top on the Eastern side. I stopped at the junction of this road and the road up to the summit at the Southern end, which did look like 4WD. About a Km walk to the top. There are communications towers, behind these the trig.
