Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

There is no beacon for this trig point

Quick stop on the drive from Corinna to Stanley after doing the Western Explorer Road

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3 days off from work, and Geo Kid O joined me on a journey to Stanley and then down along the western explorer road towards Corinna. We have a great time finding a number of caches and driving a road I had not travelled on before.

The Western Explorer road was closed for a while and recently had been reopened with a new bridge near Balfour. Some very interesting sights along the way, with part of the road feeling more like a forest track, and other parts felt like a place where no one else has gone in the past, other than on the road. The open button grass plains were amazing along with the mountain views.

We stayed in Stanely, and the caches in and around Stanely were very good, including one walk to the top of the Nut. Gee that is a steep 400 metre walk.

Thank you for the cache which was part of our journey

Hi and thanks for the trig.
Taking advantage of the Hobart show public holiday, and making a 4 day geocaching trip West, and then North West, with AlbyDangles.
This is one we found along the way - a nice quick and easy find/stop as the rain was slowly setting in.
Pic attached.
Cheers, EPs.

Today we left Stanley with gooseandegg and Tassie Trekkers for a caching run down the road to nowhere onto Corinna, Savage River, Waratah and anywhere in between. We left Stanley and cached for 12 hours and had a thoroughly wonderful day out, despite the rain. The rain cleared by the time we got to Corinna abd on to Waratah.. We stopped along the way to grab this trig. TFTT

A nice easy trig to get to. A quick roadside find with TazScout and stainless-steel-rat as we headed for Corrina.

Just what we like trigs near the road.

Travelling around Australia and spending a few months in Tasmania.

Leaving our caravan in Waratah we set off in the Geocruiser towards Corinna. We grabbed a coupe of caches along the way but decided to grab most caches on the way back.

Grabbed this one on the way back in brilliant sunshine as opposed to the drizzle on the way down. Wink

Approached this one and thought we've done this one before! Had done the tripod one nearby but not this one. Thought it was going to be the cairn but when coordinates weren't right there a short walk soon had us at GZ.
Surprised to see a walker come past while here. No gear so must have been a Savage River local exercising. Thanks.

Found this one a very long time ago but I was unable to find the photos.
I knew exactly where this trig is, so on my way home from Corinna, I stopped here to grab another photo.

We had been past this area on a number of occasions and had seen the nearby trig marker but had not realised that there was another trig point so close by. The brass disc for ST1096 was found quite quickly. The required photos have been added to the Gallery. Thanks Sirius Tas for tracking this one down.
