Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

This Trig is only 65m or so off the Newhaven Road. Pink tape marks the start of an old track up.

Today I was working out this way so took a quick drive to grab this trig. As I drove down the road I spotted what looked like an old track that went up onto the rise where the trig was likely to be. Turned the ute around and parked on the section back up the road 50m where I could get off the road. Off I went walking across the knee high scrub, as I got to the top of the rise I spotted the ring of rocks and the trig marker. Grabbed the photo and then walked down to the car. TFTC

didn't see the pink tape so wasn't sure how to access or where to park safely

Hunting trigs published since our last visit and this was one of them. A scramble up the hill to this one.

What a neat trip out to this one. Took a while, but with two trigs on the list, there was no way I wanted to not go.

Lots of dirt road driving, even a maintenance crew working on one of the bridges, but all was good and I was soon just 50 odd metres from the trig. Bit of a scramble through the undergrowth and the prize was soon spotted. Well worth the effort.

A bit of a scramble up the hill but an easy find when we got there. On the way back down I managed to not only fall on my rear in the wet but I also picked up two leeches. TFTT, I think!

Clear blue skies, moderate temperatures and little breeze were ideal conditions to head off to look for this recently listed State Trig point. As described we were able to park within about 70m of the trig point but we were greeted by swarm of large flies, probably march flies, which wanted to get into the car before we had got out. Little did they know that the resident spider(s) had spun their webs and by the time we had returned, a least five had been caught. It was an easy walk to GZ. This appears to be another original SPM survey control marker which has been upgraded to ST status - the ground marker was labelled SPM whilst the survey marker plate stated ST477. The required photo has been added to the Gallery - it is a composite of three images. Thanks Sirius Tas for adding this one to the GA list of State Trig points.
