Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station and photograph the GZ.

Official Code: TS5522
Official Name: Broadwater

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property, and permission to access the trig is not forthcoming, or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

(Official name of this previous Trig Station TP6849, was per NSW Department of Lands: Warren.
Serial number was: TS4657.) Grahame Cookie had asked Rogerw3 to check out Warren, from a Grid Reference on a map, but when GCookie had earlier checked it out found the quarry, with noone in the office knowing anything about a survey marker. So now making it into a regular trig, that is findable!

Access: For Broadwater GS: Park near a gate @ S29º 0.685' E153º 26.415'. A bit of a squeeze through, and then immediately to the south is an open 'gate', which allows you to then walk up the grassy hill.

I saw an image of this Trig some years ago. Ever since then I’ve quietly wanted to visit. Well, today it happened.

Driving towards the parking coordinates I smiled as I entered Fischer Street. I recently listened to a great audiobook about Bobby Fischer called Endgame which has reignited a lost passion for chess. I parked near the gate but off the road and jumped over. A few metres up and to the right is a break in the fence. I walked through then simply followed my compass to GZ. Just a few minutes up a hill. There she is! Oh dear this area could do with some clearing. Images taken and time to move on. Thanks for the cache Smile

It was nearing sundown but I was determined to find this trig point. I followed the recommendations of fellow cachers and climbed the hill via the entry to the right hand side of the gate. The trig cannot be seen from this direction until nearly upon it. Very grateful that the loud crashing sound was only a wallaby.

I finally got around to climbing this hill. you see the thing is, when I finish work I just want to go to bed. Haha. Each time I pass this road on my way home from work I hope to see the gate open so I can drive up instead (Broadwater township side). Today I gave up and decided to walk up. It turned out that the road didn't go very far up the hill anyway. Haha.

If you are going to attempt this trig find from this direction you will have to navigate a fence or 2. I chose the lower and easier incline route around the water tank fence but only found myself going through two lots of barbed wire fences. I took a different route back to the car and easily slipped under the fence. however that hill is steep.

Once at the top of the hill I met with 3 workers measuring stuff. I believe they were with the new highway building folk. As I was still in my work uniform I looked like I was supposed to be with them. Haha. After exchanging some pleasantries I moved along and found my trig. I wish I could have wandered down to look at the highway from above but I didn't think it was appropriate with the workers there. they drove up from the highway side. I wonder if it can be accessed from that side in the near future? However you still need to climb through at least 1 fence to get to the trig.

Well that was fun. And good to tick it off before my work ends here in a few weeks. My gosh it was hot today - definitely should have done this sooner. Summer has come way too early this year. haha.

Yep, that little hill is a killer on a hot day! Luckily I was there pretty early today and it wasn't too hot yet, but I certainly worked up a sweat. A trig in good condition - I like it. I had a few others on the radar today - this was stop number 1.

We've noticed the GPS pointing to Broadwater GS before and knew exactly what was needed to get it - a hike up a short steepish hill. Neutral Mostly we haven't been as desperate for a find as we were today so we continued up the lane to the locked gate. It was extremely humid today and that uphill climb had sweat coming out of sweat. As mentioned we were keen for another find for the Journey or Destination game so hopefully this Available Step will give us more points... dirt would be too cruel.... Evil or Very Mad

Found at 1140am. Parked at the gate and hiked up through the gap in the fence. Only a short walk of 170m.
Selfie taken at the trig
Thanks

A very Merry Trig Finding Christmas after a long and slow haul back to Australia from a 3 week (+) volunteering trip to Thailand to teach Geocaching. Parked near the gate mentioned on the page, but then walked too far up the hill, and found an easy way through the barbed wire, and no long grass made an easy walk up to the top (compared to Round Mountain).
Found a concrete cylindrical base (unlike most of the NSW slender pyramidal ones), with a round steel pipe on the base, coupled with the usual plastic pipe and black semi-circular vanes on top. Name plate announces: CENTRAL MAPPING AUTHORITY, GEODETIC STATION, BROADWATER.
Found @ 2005, a little after the sun had set, so the photos are not the best.
On the way back to the car I noticed the gap in the fence down near the locked gate. That would make it easier.

Seems the first Unarchiving entry didn't work, so trying again. Embarassed
Converted this earlier trig of Warren, down near Peates Ridge/Mangrove Mountain, which had been swallowed up by a quarry, to an Unpublished trig, not far from the Pacific Highway, Broadwater, northern NSW; with the Official Code: TS5522

Sadly there is nothing left to be found of this trig.
