Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

 Additonal Information
This State Trig survey control marker was identified in the SurCom database and consists of a brass disc set into concrete. As there is no official name in the SurCom database, this trig point has been given the name "Ravenswood North" because it is in Ravenswood and is a little north of a trig point beacon called "Ravenswood". Further information about this State Trig can be found from the link Ravenswood North.

Have been sorting through various dz trophy points requirements to reveal a cache  needed to be found starting with the letter 'V' to complete a particular trophy, plus nab a few other GA caches if available. The only two caches I could find starting with 'V' were 'Victoria Peak' and 'Victor the Vet Gnome'. The first required a very arduous trek on the West Coast...so soon ruled that one out, especially at this time of the year....the latter was a moveable in the Trevallyn State Reserve so was way easier to access..the only problem being in whether it had been found and not yet logged as is often the case with moveables..ah well, would soon find out.Having to once again attend an appointment to see a Specialist today (Friday), a plan was soon hatched. The weather forecast was not too bad in Launnie, being mostly fine and showers or rain developing later in the day. Set off around 9am in overcast conditions but cleared a little on arriving at the Dr's surgery. All went as well as expected there, then off to find the elusive moveable cache. Set the coords on the trusty Garmin Navigator as I find it much easier to navigate the jumble of streets around Trevallyn and Launceston in general. It was not long before gz was reached with not a muggles in sight. Clue said it was hidden at the base of a tree...yes but which one. After a few false starts the right tree was soon indeed found and Victor the Vet Gnome was finally in my grasp....now off to find the trig 'Ravenswood Norrh St1091'.Arrived in the vicinity of gz and spotted a track leading up off the road. Soon had a freshly painted survey mark in sight.
Took the required photo. Tftc GCA....cheers ST.

#GA892 - 15:30; Back in Tassie on family business, so the opportunity to collect a few more of the local caches was too good to pass up. I dropped the geohoney for a bit of retail therapy and headed off to try for a couple of trigs. I parked further away than I needed to, which also made for a less well beaten track in. I had located the nearby trig before continuing on my way along the ridge to this survey marker. Another snap taken and a nearby GC cacge collected and it was back to the geomobile and home. Quite an unpleasant experience here today. Pulled up and was overcome by that horrible burnt smell. Walked up the track and headed across to gz only to have my feet sink about 6 inches down in to hot ash! There was still smoke coming from some stumps and flames on 1. Not a very pleasant place to visit at the moment but an easy find of the marker. Thanks.

Great - a 2-for-1 deal. Better than Maccas. Then again, what isn't? A quick nab whilst bagging the nearby trig.

Today we targeted caches that have been placed whilst we have been away and this was one of them.

Found this trig point whilst out and about in Launceston. Rather odd that there are two ST trig points within a relatively short distance of one another. The required photo has been added to the Gallery.
