Description
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the centre point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
There are, however, a number of trig points which are not beacons.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.
Additional Information
The iconic Ulverstone War Memorial is one of eight monuments in Tasmania designated as a State Trig Point. There isn't a normal trig marker but the Survey Control Site Summary in the SurCom database lists is as "Centreline Top of Ulverstone Clock Tower". The high visibility of the structure from all around the area explains it's secondary role as a State Trig point. Further information can be found at the SurCom link Ulverstone War Memorial.
Two other Tasmanian monuments have already been listed as Trig Points on Geocaching Australia: "TP5641 Tassies Belly Button Trig Point (ISA Monument Bronte) ST715" and "TP6802 Cenotaph Hobart ST18".
The Cenotaph in Hobart is the only other War Memorial location in Tasmania designated as a State Trig Point. Other monuments which are designated Trig Points are mainly on islands off the Tasmanian mainland such as Flinders Island, Bruny Island and Sterile Island.

TFTC"
The Ulverstone Memorial Clock was designed by Cvetko Mejac, a professor of architecture and civil engineering in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. The design features include:The base represents the blue sea and is the outline of Tasmania. It was painted red by the local council some time after, according to Jernej Bajzelj.Out of the land rise three columns, presented as three open books standing upright. They represent the armed services of the army, navy and air force. On the inside surface of the columns, glass rectangles bear the names of the municipality's fallen of World War II.The three chains unite the armed services.Above the pillars is the four-faced clock, which sees in all directions. It represents time and eternity. At the apex is the Torch of Remembrance, kept burning to signify memory. At the heart of the shrine stands the 1914-1919 War Memorial Cenotaph. The central stone circle is blood- red and represents the altar of sacrifice.A laurel wreath hangs from the base of the clock, a symbol of heroes and victors. Woven into the leaves of European laurel are wattle flower heads in groups of three.
Many thanks for a most interesting trig which represents so much.
Cheers...sirius.
TFTC and cheers
