Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

That is a lot of steps.

Found on our trip to Bruny Island. It was cold and wet and we did not climb the stairs as my knees would make me liable to fall on the ay down, but have attached a photo from the car park. To prove we were there.

25-Sep-23
Really wet and windy today but we made it to the top of the stairs

What a great job has been done with the boardwalks and steps here.
Quite a climb to get to the trig but the views make it very worthwhile.
Lots of others up here but we didn't look too out of place taking the required photo.
Thanks.

hi and thanks for the trig; found today with AlbyDangles on our most enjoyable Bruny escapade, dodging the weather as best we could - it was actually very pleasant while we were at GZ; and almost muggle free!
cheers, EPs

I have been up here many times before.
Today I stopped off and found the trig.

Today I was caching with EeePees on Bruny Island. The weather didn't look that great when I left home but turned out to be an ok day.
As usual caching with EeePees was another great day.

Spent a day on Bruny while doing a lap of Tasmania. We did all the "foodie" things you can do over the course of the day but this was my absolute favourite stop on the island ... the view was phenomenal and worth every one of the 290 steps it took to get to the lookout.

A pretty spot with great views. TFTTP

Visited this point a few times while on Bruny Island in March 2016. We headed up all the stairs - me taking a lot longer than MrT. The view from the top was amazing! Fortunately we photographed the trig while there. TFTT

Travelling around Australia and spending a few months in Tasmania.

Staying a few days at Bruny Island today we did the Bruny Island Boat Experience.

After finally finding a GC cache (took 2 goes) it was off to visit this viewpoint for a 3 for 1 smilie. Clapping

TFTC.

A 10 day trip to Tasmania with a lot more caching then initially expected, but I enjoyed every minute of it! This was one of the many caches I found and enjoyed. Can't wait to get back here and do it all over again, there are so many great places in Tasmania.

Had a couple of days on the Island, and did all my caching on the last day ... in the rain. Fortunately it had stopped for my climb to snag this photo and to see the view. Absolutely awesome. Thanks for this cache.

A long climb but well worth it for the view.

12-Jan-15
Thankyou for bringing me up to this lookout. I spent the weekend at Bruny with my family, although i didn't drag any of them with me geocaching.

19-Dec-14
Zal and I spent 10 days touring Tasmania and it was the most amazing trip ever! We got engaged at Cradle Mountain and saw so many wonderful things. Even the weather played nice most of the time Razz Thanks for the hunt, it is always tricky logging lots of holiday finds so apologies for the cut'n'paste log, Zal included more details Wink Great views up here!

19-Dec-14
Up there with my two favourite Tassie trigs so far... this one and teh Belly-button! After a top day on the island cruise and a decent feed at the Penguin Cafe (try the Scallop Pie!) we ascended to the memorial trig for more top photos. Awesome location, you must visit!

21-Nov-14
Mr W spent Friday doing caches while on a bowling weekend to the island. Found a different type of trig. Great view. TFTT

21-Feb-14
A lovely spot with a significant memorial. Different kind of a trig!

18-Feb-14
Have been to this Trig many times.
The Neck is a favourite surf fishing spot of mine - my biggest Australian Salmon (Black Back) was caught here; some 3.2kg; love the spot and its views.
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

17-Feb-14
A beautiful view from here, and well worth the visit for the view (despite all the steps) even if there wasn't a cache or two to log!

17-Feb-14
Good to see this Monument version of a State Trig added to the GA list of Trig Points Swampy.

16-Feb-14
After spending a long time working out how many trigs on the island were possible to get and how many caches I'd like to find this trip, this was the only cache I ended up finding.
I always like the view from the top, even if the weather isn't great.
