Description

Razorback TS3860

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Razorback.

Serial number is: TS3860.

Last Inspected on: November 24, 1981.

Elevation is: 330 metres.

This is next to the passive Trig Point" Razorback Tower" TS10013. It is a concrete pedestal with a steel tipod and beacon over the top of it. It has never had a name plaque fitted.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Well I saw a couple of movables in Wollondilly – dragonZone so I figured I do a short afternoon quick punch down to this area & pick these movables up. As I was traveling south down the highway & getting closer to the turnoff the havens opened up & got a little wet picking up the movables. Luckily on the way home this was the 3rd trig & it was nice & dry so the shots were taken without the camera getting wet. Well not much homework done so relied on the GPS to take me here. Well, all I can say is I enjoyed the walk up the hill once at the top I could see the houses & a nice road here – anyway a nice well protected trig visited & a stunning view from up here – by the way a 2 for the $ of 1 visit - thanks again Clan Griffin

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1301 - 14330 overall cache finds.

Found while heading home to Canberra today during a work trip up in the Penrith region. While I mainly looked for GC caches, when an easy GCA cache comes along we go for that as well. Trigs are particularly nice to track down and find. I was very happy when they became part of the GCA cache family. Its especially satisfying if you have made a big climb up for one ! I have also now joined dragonZone in Clan Cerberus, so there are more reasons to find those GCA caches. Its interesting to find the many different types of trigs. From the traditional metal legs and vanes, to the concrete base with vanes, to the ones on top of water tanks (especially the red ones !), as well the new CORS type. When you look on a GCA map and see all those hundreds and hundreds of blue 'Z's it shows just how many there are out there. Shame so many are on private property and cannot be accessed at all. So as far as I'm concerned every trig that can be found and photographed is a real bonus !

The trig was quickly 'found'. Piccie taken and posted. Trig next to a Tower !!

Thanks Geocaching Australia !

#GA1364 - 15:10; Doing the 'Tour de Wollondilly' with Sol de lune and andrewbt to collect a few trigs and other bits and pieces. After completing what we could of our mission to Warragamba Dam, it was time to head towards home. Dropped by the Razorback and decided to go through the gate and up the bumpy track to the summit. I was very happy we hadn't done the steep climb on foot as we discovered houses nearby and a convenient street which would have made for a smoother ride! Grabbed some snaps of the tower and the trig before heading carefully back down the hill the way we came. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Came to find Razorback Tower and discovered this old style trig near the base. It has been confirmed as a separate unique trig so am logging it now. Easy enough to get close to if you can find the access point. It only appears to be off limits behind the fence - the gate below doesn't indicate private property. Great views.
