A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

Logs
Along the fire trail a short distance on from the Ted Hughes memorial and into a new growth landscape. The Spur trig stood pristine and alongside the track the area had been tidily cleared exposing Spur Old. Surprisingly, nearby lay the aged wooden pole and metalsheet vanes of Spur Old. A satisfying find.
Have been here earlier but didn't know about the 'old' location pin, which is still firmly in place quite near the 'new' Lithgow Spur Trig.
The old vanes are still very much in evidence too, lying on the ground.
Photos taken of everything!
'Four Thumbs Up' for the wonderful surprise of the old location pin, great location and the good company.
Many thanks to rogerw3 for re-discovering this trig and publishing it.
While looking for a good photo op I noticed not 5 meters away the original post and vanes lying on the ground, this had been invisible in the dense scrub previously.
I then took a closer look at all the loose rocks and stones near the base of the current trig and sure enough it made a rough circle, not enough to be evidence of an old trig by itself but with the mast and vanes nearby quite convincing.
I thought then to see if I could find the original stainless steel pin and sure enough after some scrubbing of dirt there it was with remnants of yellow paint on and around it.
Very satisfying find this one.
