Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and to photograph it.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station or in this case a Triangulation Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Day 10
Out with Tassie Trekkers hunting down caches. This was an easy find in the suburbs. TFTT

26-Jan-19
This one was a bit more interesting than the average trig. Not the actual trig itself, but the fact that there was a plaque to explain the story behind it.

25-Jan-19
Got a nice little history lesson with this one. Nice to see the surveyors getting some recognition...but this one died so young!

24-Jan-19
This is one of my favoutie ones because it has a person and his story with it.

15-Jan-19
over this side of town for an appointment, so decided to hunt this one down. Worked in the suburb at one stage and didn't realize this little park was here. A lovely walk up along a beautifully shaded walk way to grab the photo.

11-Jan-19
Almost a drive by for this one today.

Found the trig while doing a multi in the area - first time visiting this spot.

Found after my AST exams on yet another sleety afternoon. On the way to my music lesson in Phillip, I decided to quickly SWING by Swinger Hill to get this trig. After getting out in the cold to take the photo, I sat in the car for a bit with my phone before heading off again. Lovely little park in an interesting suburban area. TFTC GCA! Catching up on trig finds...

This one was quite special, I found it sometime between 1-3am in the morning, and it was -3 Degrees!
This was because I had to take someone to Woden Hospital nearby and had some waiting time!

So found this trig whilst finding the nearby cache Swinger Summit (GC4VFF2)

My log: https://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=1145d0b6-4122-4e41-bc69-2d527e259177

Thanks!

A visit to Woden area to get this Trig and the nearby Pearce CORS. No idea this little park was here. Thanks.

Headed south after work for a couple of trigs. This was the second. Quick find as I had done the GC multi nearby last year.

Part of my determined assault on the scavenger hunt with today being a mini deadline. Interesting spot surrounded by townhouses

11-Dec-16
Found today with GrimRaider while out on our Sunday scavenger hunt. Cool to grab this trig at last and pick up the nearby multi too. Not much of a view from here but an easy pick up. TFTT

An easy and nice ride on the Mountain Bike, Spied the PLAQUE TOO!!!!!!!!

I was headed home after caching in the Blue Range area, so decided to add this one to my finds.

22-Jul-15
Found this trig 8:45pm after picking up the geodaughter from a location not too far away. I figured I might as well do another GCA trig whilst I am out to do a GC one. I parked in nearby cul-de-sac and walked up over to GZ. Snapped the required photo's although as usual it's in the dark. Interesting detail in a plaque for a change.

03-Jun-15
I called in for a quick pic on my way to work on a very frosty morning. Like others, I had spotted this one before, but before it was published. So I returned today for a updated selfie.

856. I know I've been here a couple of times but not sure why I didn't grab the Trig. Although that's a bit of a stretch - more like the plaque.

TFTT and the momentum.

With the day's formalities done, it was time to head back to the airport via a cache or two. The was the first and ended up being a nice quick find at 15:20 and allowed us time to grab the adjacent multi.

Thanks Geocaching Australia.

I'm not sure what this photo says about me...

14-Sep-14
Nice quick find in a familiar spot. Now, normally, I would say this is not a trig, but seeing there is a plaque here - what can I say!

06-Jul-14
I stopped by here on a day out caching. Thanks

I happened by while doing a nearby multi. Always nice to spot an unusual but interesting Trig. As I took the photo with my GPS, I have included my foot!

#GA160 - 08:55; I came up here for the GC multi and took a happy snap just in case the trig was listed too! Lucky I guess Laughing An interesting piece of local history which I'd not have learned but for geocaching. TFTC Geocaching Australia Very Happy

Trig or not a trig...good question. However the map says it's a trig...so that's good enough for me.

Visited today and grabbed a photo.

Hi Noikmeister,
I did at first think the same thing. While it does have the poles similar to a sectional control the post does not have a 2 alpha and numeric code like described in the cache you linked. The photo on my log doesn't show it to well but the posts say "Swinger".

Also according to ACTmapi it is designated as "MC - Swinger". Other trigs are labelled MC. Sectional controls are labelled SC on the ACTmapi.

Even the plaque calls it a triangulation station which as C@W pointed out on the ACT forums (http://forum.geocaching.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=18541) is another name for a trig station.

At this stage I'm still going with it's a trig. Although if it wasn't for actmapi and the plaque I would think it was just a stupidly labeled sectional control point

10-May-14
I think the reason it has never been marked as a trig before is because it isn't a trig. It is a section control marker I think.

Well, I normally get great views and a nice walk when I go grabbing trigs. This one is more of a near drive-by! A short walk and there I was a a very clearly signed trig.

Photo to come.

THanks for the easy trig Very Happy

25-Apr-14
We wandered past this one when we were in the area for another. Quick and easy trig!

23-Apr-14
Popped out at lunchtime to find this - one of the easiest trigs to get to I must admit!

22-Apr-14
Not sure why this hadn't been marked as a trig before. Perhaps because it says triangulation station which is apparently the same thing. But either way this is a nice easy one to find as it has a path leading directly to it, it even has a plaque right near it.

Technically, I was here at this time. My proof: My cache has almost the exact same coordinates and covers the trig at the summit!
