Description

Green Hills Res TS?

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Green Hills Res.

Serial number is: TS number not allocated.

Last Inspected on: No Data.

Elevation is: 445 metres.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Did I not see this the last time I came past...or did I not know about trigs back then? Who knows.

Out for a Sunday drive and stopped to grab this one, a little hard to see through the trees but it can just be seen.

completed on an early morning cache run before it heated up, the trees have grown here – this photo was the best of the bunch - thanks Clan Griffin

#GA1355 - 11:15; Doing the 'Tour de Wollondilly' with Sol de lune and andrewbt to collect a few trigs and other bits and pieces. We overshot the runway on this one and had to back track a kilometer or so. Turned out okay as it put us in a better parking position to take a snap or two. Very Happy Found it. Not having cached much recently I decided to make a day of this gorgeous warm weather and head out caching. On our way through the area we discovered a meandering road, which looked like a private driveway, up to the top of a hill containing two Trig Points and a lovely view to the west. Nice, never been here before let alone knowing it existed. Thanks. Clapping

Out with my car companion Throsbyonchurch when this was found.

On a return from the Thirlmere Trainworks with rogerw3 for this quick off route trig. Difficult to see from the roadside due to the screening flora, but placing a barrier between my companion and a trig is no barrier. 'It will be better down the side' he says ... and rogerw3 was right!

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1094 - 10818 overall cache finds.

Found during a run around with Sol de Lune today. While I mainly looked for GC caches, when an easy GCA cache comes along we go for that as well. Trigs are particularly nice to track down and find. I was very happy when they became part of the GCA cache family. Its especially satisfying if you have made a big climb up for one ! I have also now joined dragonZone in Clan Cerberus, so there are more reasons to find those GCA caches. Its interesting to find the many different types of trigs. From the traditional metal legs and vanes, to the concrete base with vanes, to the ones on top of water tanks (especialy the red ones !), as well the new CORS type. When you look on a GCA map and see all those hundreds and hundreds of blue 'Z's it shows just how many there are out there. Shame so many are on private property and cannot be accessed at all. So as far as I'm concerned every trig that can be found and photographed is a real bonus !

The trig was quickly 'found'. Piccie taken and posted. Another nice red one !

Thanks Geocaching Australia !

Accidentally stumbled on this one. Only 30 meters or so from the road, very visible when driving by, but very hard to make a proper picture due to the trees around.
