Description

Captain Cook Memorial Lighthouse TS12030

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Captain Cook Memorial Lighthouse.

Serial number is: TS12030.

Last Inspected on: No Data.

This is a passive trig. It is located on the border of New South Wales and Queensland.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

One photo for 2 GCA finds, it doesn't get much better than that.

A great lighthouse with a difference.
Thanks.

A passive trig with a view! I've been up here a bit, but only just logging it today. It's always a popular spot, especially on weekends. I popped in before work to snap a pic.

#GA2995 - 12:20; After a relaxing couple days on the Gold Coast, the crew headed back over the border for breakfast in Kingscliffe. After a very nice brekky, it was back north again via a few caches which involved nice views etc. We were lucky to get a park when we arrived at the top of the point, but we did and it was only a short stroll to GZ to grab a snap of the trig/lighthouse! It has taken us some time to work through all the photos we took whilst on our major excursion to get to Brisbane (for a family wedding) via Echuca, Griffith, Cobar, Bourke and Stanthorpe. It was a great trip, one which we will remember for a long time because of the very different landscape types that we went through, the unique characters of each of the towns visited, the wildlife and the different community activities and tourist features. As we started to head home, we called into Point danger at Coolangatta and visited the very distinctive Captain Cook Memorial Lighthouse which is also a trig point. The photo added to the Gallery shows Mrs y'stassie with the memorial in the background. Thanks geocaching Australia for the cache.

Next on my journey around the area on this very pleasant evening (well, for a 'Mexican' at least Wink) brought me to here. A fantastic spot, even at 17:55 at night, and a two-for-one bonus as well. Dancing

Thanks Geocaching Australia.

what an intetesting lighthouse and monument. We stopped to watch the playful whales.

On the way home from Queensland after a couple of weeks and headed out this way to grab a few trigs....and check out the view. A great area with views to match. The trig was snapped and all was good.

Over from WA for the Special Olympics junior nationals being held at the Runaway Bay sporting complex. Arrived late last night so decided to have a quick look around and pick up a few caches while we had the time. Lovely area on the border between the two states

Visiting Tweed Heads this weekend and decided to do some GCA caches, in fact my first. This is a well known lighthouse and lived in the area when it was being constructed. Found Trig Point with no problem and took photo. TFTC

Quite a popular spot here today with many folk enjoying the views and sunshine.
Great spot.
Thanks.

Ah - so it turns out there are two trig-points here - no wonder I was a bit confused when my GPS directed me away from this impression and hard-to-miss strutureto an much less imposing one... This was a structure I was keen to visit as I remember from my childhood my grandmother had come here on a holiday. The required photo taken - I even remember to include the GPS in it - I had a closer look to investigate the border and information plaques for a nearby multi - TFTTP Smile

How did I miss logging this? We were there yesterday, logging a first to find on the Lighthouse Virtual Cache.

Figured we may as well log this one as well.

This is a popular spot....and the coffee shop across the road knew it when they started business, they do a roaring trade. We often visit the lighthouse when we're in the area, the views go on forever. Today we took yet another photo of the Lighthouse to log this cache.

24-Jun-15
A very wet & drizzling today when I stopped by to log this trig.

Started taking some photos of this unusual trig @ 0040, and then had some sleep, so not sure which photos came out best, as I can't load the cameras SD card onto the tablet. Hope to get the laptop back soon.
Thanks for sharing this trig Tyreless.

I noticed on Six Maps that there are three trigs in this area: Point Danger, Point Danger (Qld), and the Memorial Lighthouse. The Memorial Lighthouse was a very popular tourist location today with glorious sunshine and whales sputing out to sea.
