Description

Robertsons TS3920

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Robertsons.

Serial number is: TS3920.

TheTrig is a cairn that is a memorial placed by the Robertsons, Duncans and Reids Clans and unveiled by Clan Chief G Robertson of Straun in 1988.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Took the ferry this morning to Cremorne Point to visit this beautiful spot on the harbour. Great views up and down the harbour.

Exploring Cremorne Reserve today on a trip to collect a few caches in LGAs I don't have and I stopped to read some of the inscriptions here before moving on. Grabbed the lighthouse virtual and came back to find the trig. The Scottish cairn IS the trig. Certainly a unique one.
*Overall Experience: 5*

Find the trig and memorial. I like how some of the stones are engraved. Smile

Lots to find on this point on the harbour.

The start of a big day of caching of an aquatic theme. Interesting they built the monument on top of the original trig (or perhaps re-purposed a redundant piece of concrete! Laughing ) Grabbed this coastal trig and and the GCA trad nearby then it was off for a morning of kayaking on Middle Harbour. Great place to watch the sailing from here... Whistle

Found myself down this way after a work call out on a Sunday. Annoying but still it's an area I don't cache that often these days. Made the stroll down to this, but had to check other logs to confirm what I was looking for as it isn't a traditional trig pole. Still claimed it as a find using what others have. Cheers.

Another day trip to the big smoke with LuckyL10n to grab a few trigs and hopefully a gegnome or two....

Managed to park close by and then followed the track to the point. Wen by the trig at first as my GPS said keep going, but then it was back to the memorial and the photo's were grabbed.

Another very nice location around these parts.... Clan CerberusClan Cerberus

#GA786 - 16:20; I had to make an unscheduled trip to Sydney to visit a mate in hospital and was able to persuade Sol de lune to provide company for the trip. Once visiting hours were over we decided to visit an area relatively unexplored by us before heading for home. We had completed our mission in Mosman and with time on our side, headed over to North Sydney. This was our second stop in that area and we enjoyed a walk along to the trig through a well maintained park which is clearly being set up for the NYE events on the harbour. We walked past the trig initially, but soon worked things out and had our snaps in the bag. Really strange that this is only the third visit to this trig! Always great to find a new Trig, even if this is not the original one, this monument was in fact built over the top of the Trig plug.

I'd seen the location of this trig on sixmaps and was surprised it hadn't been listed on Geocaching Australia. I have made an assumption that the 1988 cairn at the location is in fact the trig station. It's an interesting little structure at a location with glorious views of the harbour and other bits of history such as the old lighthouse.

Found at 12:40pm.
