Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and to photograph it.

Official Code: TS10356

Official Name: Bolwarra

Coordinates: 32° 42.147'S 151° 35.043'E

Description: Rooftop steel pillar with mast and vanes, last inspected July 9, 1990.

Elevation: 42m.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of the metal post (sometimes, four metal legs or a concrete pillar), resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by the ability to place a surveying device on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to. (As this one is, if you want to touch it - as, either a ladder is required, to get on top of the toilet block, or, be willing to climb up a spindly bottle brush bush on the northwestern corner of the toilet block, and then step onto the roof. All at your own risk, of course)

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

In the tradition of requiring a 'close-up' photo of the trig, as opposed to a telephoto/zoomed shot the Terrain is raised, as a suitable elevation can be gained by climbing up a small tree (bush) at one corner of the toilet block.

Logs

Was I blind? I checked the gallery for this one. No, not there. It would appear this one has been removed.

I was staying overnight a few blocks from here. I saw there was a trig and lookout here also and room to swing a car with caravan around so dropped by in the morning. It was foggy - the view had been eaten by the nothing. With "nothing" to see here, just an air pipe on top of the toilet block, a radio tower, and a few kids playing in the wet playground, I just turned around and headed back out to journey further south.

Oh the indignity for this poor trig. To be standing on the roof of a public toilet.

Smile Found this on an overcast but warm Saturday morning with my Geo-daughters. I don't know what tree/bush we were meant to climb, maybe it has been removed

Couldn't get the GC cache here because of muggles but this trig makes up for it ... almost.

Mr Beetle went up the tree to get the photo for this one. Because he couldn't balance and hold the GPS and the camera we took another photo when he was back on the ground showing the tree he climbed in the far left. Talk about a sh*thouse trig!!!!
Thanks.

Quick find on the way home from a Tocal Field Day.

I have been past a few times over the years since the first attempt at getting a 'closer photo'. The bottle brush bush is still as 'sketchy', but I did get a better photo today - so will post that.

I finally joined so I can now log the 3 Trig Stations I have found this past month. This was the first one we found. I've attached a photo.

Out with my brother-in-law today and on the way back to Clarence Town stopped here at Bolwarra lookout. Didn't get out of the car however due to the heavy rain. Could still get a happy snap of the trig point through the car window.

Came here to find the 'Bolwarra Lookout' geocaching.com cache, where a finder has mentioned the trig on top of the toilet block! It must be a very stable building? I also took photoes of myself with the other tall towers here, not sure what they are for but I see they are not added as waypoints here anyway. Thanks and cheers all!

2235 While MVMB was finding the Bolwarra Lookout cache I was reading back over the logs and gathered that there might be trig here, but I didn't have it in my GSAK database. Got a photo (or two) while on the ground, and then tried to find out what the trig was called and see if it had an intact nameplate. Wasn't quite game enough to take 'that step' onto the roof, so got another photo from a more elevated position.
It may be that someone else had taken an earlier photo of the trig while finding the nearby GC cache.
