Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and to photograph it. Official Code: TS6025

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Take care when crossing the 'fords' / creek crossings.

First trig for a few months! Headed north for a weekend in Kempsey, we finally took the detour off the highway to this trig, after driving past countless times over the years. The last bit could be a little 2WD hairy at times...

Out touring on the motorbike for a few days solo, although it is far more challenging trying to navigate to trigs on the motorbike I couldn't resist grabbing a couple on the way past. nice and easy ride up the hill and couldn't be easier to spot on the road.

06-Jan-20
An easy drive up from the main road.

I hadn't planned on coming north but some bad health news from my father made a drive to the Coffs Harbour region a necessity and I will now be up here for at least a few days, and probably several times over the next 2-3 months. But seeing this was near the highway north after stopping at the previous rest stop I made the detour in to grab a moveable that had been left here and the trig.

Took a photo of the plaque and me in front of the cache, iPhone pic only so not sure of the quality.

With needing to go to Newcastle for some accreditation meetings I thought that I would try to get a couple of trigs before having to be home early enough for an early start on the Monday morning. Having some of the published trigs either being destroyed or locked up for the night meant that I decided to get this one off the Pacific Highway. Having only recently noticed it on SIX.Maps it seemed quite easy to check on and see how it is fairing.
Well, it is actually in quite good condition, with an intact name plate.
Took a couple of photos, and then back home.
(Just take care on the sudden dips at the creek crossings)
