Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and photograph it.

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Weeney.

Serial number is: TS4694.

Last Inspected on: No Data.

Elevation (from topo map) is: 387 metres.

Rock Cairn, the mast has gone and the vanes have collapsed next to it.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points were sourced from Geoscience Australia and this one is from a combination of the Wirraba 1:25,000 9031-IV-N 1974 topo map (AusGeo66 grid reference 8390 3537), and the SIX map site, so may contain inaccuracies (See Note below).

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocachin g Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

PLEASE NOTE: on the Wirraba 9031-IV-N (1977 map, using AusGeo66) the Weeney trig is shown at S33º 5.829' E150º 41.131', with the same height (387 m) as the 'spot height' as where the SIX map site shows TS4694 !!

Outdoornut22 and I saw that no one had ever found this one so we set out from home to try and be the first, we set out into what was marked as a swamp on the top map and were pretty lucky as it was pretty dry apart from a small creek that was pretty easy to hop across, then a bit of a climb up to the top of the hill.

Saw that no one had ever found this one so we set out from home a little uncertain as to where we were going or if we would find anything due to the conflicting coords and maps above. we crossed the swampy area that wasn’t to bad but wouldn’t like to have been there after heavy rain and headed up the gradual hill. Can confirm this one is still here at it’s correct coords. It is a rock pile with its broken rusty vanes in the ground behind it. Clan Minotaur
