Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and photograph it.

Official code: TS10437R

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

This reservoir is just off Cowper Street in Taree.

This was a nice quick find on the way out of Taree after a lunch stop for playground and pies. We spotted the trig from a distance and even managed to get a sort of close up picture. Sometimes these types become invisible as you get closer.
Now onwards to see if some chocolate soft serve is in our near future.

Heading home from a week in Port Macquarie, I managed to convince my wife into a quick detour through Taree for some trig hunting. We grabbed 4, and there's still a handful left - Taree *is* a great spot for trigs.... We parked across the road and grabbed the pics - my 8 year old was then promptly car sick on the footpath....

GCA 4,367. Found with albida33 as we wandered headed up the coast caching.

After staying overnight at the Showgrounds we grabbed this trig to start the day off.

I spent a weekend caching in the mid north coast region with Fitzy_1965. A simple drive by to grab an image of the water tank.

Thanks

Taree is a great place to stop for trigs!

Last cache for the day and unlike a lot of trigs on water tanks this one stands nice and tall and doesn't disappear as you drive closer.
Looks like the watertank could do with a coat of paint though.
When we pulled up here we set all the neighbourhood dogs off barking. Unlike a physical cache though it doesn't matter if the muggles owning them come out to see what's happening.
Thanks.

#GA2680 - 08:35; Day four of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune. After leaving the Mega yesterday afternoon and caching our way to Taree where we spent the night at a local caravan park, the plan for today was to cache our way north to Ballina in preparation for some caching around Byron and the Tweed before setting sail south again for home. Although not part of the original itinerary, I was able to collect a few more caches in Taree, which Sdl had picked up on previous visits. After a solo run along the local testline, we were now headed out of town again when we stopped for me to grab a snap of this trig. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

One of us passes this trig almost every day, yet until today have never noticed it.
We were able to park quite close and take a quick pic.

Trigs can suddenly appear, this one did. We were driving past when we spotted it so grabbed the phone for a photo on the move.

Having started work EARLY this morning I was also able to finish a little early as well. So after a few 'domestic duties' I was able to swing by and get a photo of the trig on top of the water reservoir in Taree (Chatham).
I had photographed this some 9 years ago before starting geocaching but that those photos have also disappeared.
(Who knows if the name plate is still there!?!)
