Description

Guyra Reservoir Trig (Record ID 22679) can be seen on the eastern side of the New England Highway. Off-highway parking is in Llangothlin Street or the old Guyra Abattoir access road.

Official Code: TS10558
Official Name: Abattoir
Coords: -30.196511 151.677378

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points had been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property and permission is not given, or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

There's no close access to the trig as it's located on private property.

Spotted on our LGA hunting drive from Inverell to Tamworth, Kyogle and back to Armidale.... We drove up the little side road, and scrambled up the bank for a pretty close shot. The gate office hasn't been attended for some time I'd say.

Another trig point that is easy to see from the highway but hard to get up close to.

#GA5181 - 09:15; Day 11 of a road trip with Sol de lune for the CacheQLD - Dayboro Mega and we are now headed for home. After spending the night in Glen Innes, we set off to log a few trigs in the zone which have appeared since our last visits. We then headed south through Ben Lomond and on towards Guyra, stopping for me to log this trig which Sdl had found on an earlier visit. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

On the move from Uralla to Tenterfield and stopped to take a photo of the trig. The required photo has been added to the gallery. TFTT

A nice easy find - I remember when this place shut down. Only just spotted the trig from the road, so I walked up the embankment to get a better photo. Lots of wild raspberries fruiting here at the moment. Snacked on a couple of them then moved downtown for the other Guyra trig.

A quick clamber up and photo taken. Hope it was ok to enter the 'secured area'... TFTT

On our way home from the event/events in Alexandra and last night we stayed in Armidale NSW. Have a plan for the day and this was the first one. Followed the road up the hill and then parked and walked a little so that I could get the photo. TFTTP Very HappyClan Minotaur

I used to work in one of these places in the 70's & they all closed down within a few years of one another. Easy to see Trig from the highway but hard close up. Sign made clear not to enter so I cleared my throat to rid myself of the calicivirus & stood on my soles to get a peek-a-boo photo.

This one was a lot more obvious from the main road but we drove up the side road thinking we would get a better photo. That didn't work so well as only the top part of the trig marker could be seen.
Sorry for the pathetic photo. The top of the marker is the black ball to the left of the GPS. It looks as if it is part of the shrub there though. Thanks.

I think that I did see this trig back in 2008, but am sure I did not photograph it then. So stopped by today. All quiet.
I wonder if the abattoirs still work?
Thanks for the trig geono.
I wasn't going over the fence for this one.

QLD Mega trip 2015 with Sol de Lune. On this almost 400km road trip we drove from Canberra to Stanthorpe caching in all the towns along the way with mostly great success. Around the Mega there were heaps of caches to be done including a few power trails. Despite the weather we got all of the planned caches done.

We saw this trig on the way north. Thanks.

Spotted with Albida while heading to the Stanthorpe Mega. Easy one to grab at the entrance to it's name sake.

Found on way through town.

The hundreds of times we've passed this trig and didn't see it is unbelievable, considering it's quite easy to see from the New England Highway. It's located between the Guyra Saleyards and the old Guyra Abattoir. The Abattoir closed in 1995 and now houses Angora Rabbit Breeding.
