Description
Mount Flinders Survey Marker
In May 1802 they were spotted by Matthew Flinders, who was undertaking the first circumnavigation of Australia. After coming ashore, he climbed to the top of the peak and named it Station Peak. It was later renamed Mount Flinders.
The area is now a National Park, with mountain biking, horse riding and bushwalking tracks. The track to the peak is moderate and well maintained.
Once you reach the top, you'll be rewarded by views of the surrounding landscape including; Geelong, Avalon Airport, Little River (birthplace of the Little River Band), and on a good day, Melbourne.
Altitude in Feet: 1155
This Survey marker can be found around flat rock near the base of the boulder on the top of mountain.
Please take a photo of yourself and your GPS near the survey marker.

It has been a few years since I was last here.
Good day for it too.
Enjoyed the climb.
Took a shot of the marker from the top.

Can I die now
This was a tough walk up to the top of the hill and I had to stop every 100 or so granite steps to take a breather in the warm afternoon sun. Loads of people on the trail going both up and down and most seemed to be tourists. Not what I would do on a holiday, but I suppose I did do it on a public holiday. A great place to come for an aftenoon and remember to take water, pace yourself and take a rest every now and then to avoid becoming stressed.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks for placing this geocache here for us to find today. It's geocachers who hide geocaches that make the game fun for everyone.

Someone had the brilliant idea to hold an event on the top of Flinders Peak at dusk. How could I not join such a foolish expedition?
The entry gate to the Park closes at 5... except, of course when the Parks Vic clowns jump the gun and shut it early so they can nick off. My fault, I guess, for not getting out the door earlier. With the help of a couple of planks, a few others managed to drive in afterward, but I decided I probably needed the exercise and a bit of alone time after the first of three weeks of Pre-poll election work. Besides, it gave me the opportunity to detour and pick up another cache along the way.
I reached the turntable just before dusk had settled in, and my jumper stayed on until I got to the trail around the peak. There was certainly no need for it as I warmed to the task of getting to the top. Nor was there really any need to break out the torch, as ambient light was enough (though try convincing those following me, who overtook a little way from the summit, mainly because they were blinding me with their torches... anyway...).
We enjoyed the view while waiting for everyone that had ventured out this evening to join us at the summit, took the obligatory happy snap.
For once, I remembered to check the GCA app before the descent, then found the disc and added another photo.
Business over, I enjoyed the descent while swapping tall tales with n0w0rries, who'd arrived late and been treated to a lift from the entrance by tonight's organiser.
