Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and to photograph it.

Official Code: TS7292

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

Access: There is a sandy track from S29º 27.920' E153º 21.232' off from Angourie Road that leads to the reservoir.

I am in Yamba this weekend for an end of year work function. I attempted to find the Angourie Reservoir yesterday. I drove past a few times but was looking for a road. I tried again this morning and spotted the driveway and locked gate. I nice walk up to the reservoir with my umbrella for sun protection. Not hard core I know. Looked around for evidence of the trig but couldn't find anything. Thanks for the cache GA

Well this was an underwhelming Trig find. It felt like I was back in Queensland haha. A great image from Team737 showing what remains of this Trig. Very unfortunate. This was my final find of a great day out. I was hoping to get to TP13274 Cassons today but that will be another time..
Thanks for the cache Smile

We went down here for our before breakfast exercise, on the bikes. Parked at the locked gate and walked in.... I'm dark I didn't check the logs last night, or would have known to look for the vanes. We're definitely going to start bringing the drone for trigs, especially for these reservoir ones.... long shot does show the trig post quite well....

Addit - we returned with the drone.... it is the bees knees for these reservoirs....

I was in the area, and decided it was high time I searched for this one. I walked up to the Reservoir and saw the pole. After a quick scout around, I found the vanes laying in the paddock. Someone had set fire to it and the stump next to it. The pole was a little melted and the vanes badly rusted. I put what was left of the top of this trig on the stump for the next people to find a bit easier. The vanes are located at the co-ordinates listed on this log. A nice little walk, but it was pretty warm today - so I was glad that the next trigs I found were by the sea. Great little morning adventure!

Found this cache while staying in the area

In a hurry and not wearing appropriate footwear for running meant a distant shot just a little way beyond the locked gate. Smile

Parked at the gate across the track and walked the 300meters into the reservoir. The Co Ordinates had me inside the concrete wall of the tank but that is not possible for me to do that and climbing up to the top is out of the question. I could see the top of the tower from the road but I had to get closer for the photo. The gate is across the track and the fence is only about j4meters either side of the gate. I can see where maybe 4WD's have used a side track in the loose sand. The base of the tower is covered in paint work by who consider to be vandals.

I had searched SIX Maps NSW for any possible trigs that hadn't already been posted on GCA, and noticed that there was some, so luckily I had put them on my GPSr before leaving for Toowoomba for 3 weeks. On my way home I navigated to, and past this one, as I was distracted by a 'pack of cyclists' as I neared what ended up being the access track to the reservoir.
Definitely not suitable for a wheel chair, but there are views of the reservoir.
