Description
Watsons Bay Old TS?
Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Watsons Bay Old.
Serial number is: TS ?.
Last Inspected on: No data.
Elevation is: 86 metres
This is the original (circa 1880) lead plug marking the trig placement. This was drilled into the native sandstone but due to wear and tear some small amount of concrete has been placed around the plug. it is now 53 metres North of the current trig TP4953.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

Logs
We picked up both GC and GCA caches along the way.
So many Trigs ! So little time ! Awesome to find so many today.
TFTC !!
This one was a little tricky to locate compared to its mates. As others have mentioned in their logs there is little left of this trig. It is only a bolt in the ground now. With the required photos snapped it was back to admire the lighthouse again which could be seen more clearly as the sea mist was lifting.
Thanks for the cache Geocaching Australia
GCA Find #182
Hoping this find will move me one step closer to the destination, be that either the blue tile or my goal of 100 trigs!
