Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself.

You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I was rather tired by the time I got to what seemed like a 'benched track' off of Hewitts Peak Road, at 2100, after driving over from Sandstone Trig, at Pillar Valley. I drove up about 10 metres before realising THAT was a BAD IDEA! It is very overgrown!
So, as I was already 'up hill', it meant that it was comfortable to 'out the seat back', and sleep until sunrise.
Coordinates where I parked: S29° 47.700' E152° 5.518'; there is enough room for one car to park here.
Walked eastward, on up through the 15 year old regrowth on the track, and over a couple of fallen trees, until I got very close to the top, where I came across another track coming up from the north. There had been a transmitter at the top at one stage, with a solar panel to power it, but that has disappeared.
The trig is in good condition, being a concrete pedestal, with white painted plastic post, and black, perforated semi-circular vanes, with intact name plate.
After taking photos I headed down the alternate track, to the north, which ends up on Hewitts Peak Road, at: S29° 47.540' E152° 5.873', where there is room to park several cars. But again, the track is overgrown.

Not in Private Property, but in State Forest, with 'ready access' if people are keen.
Will add some coordinates for OVERGROWN trails that lead to the top.

This trig appears to be on private property and at this stage is not accessible for cachers to visit. For these reasons the listing is being archived.

If in the future the location does becomes accessible and the trig is found, the listing can be unarchived by logging an 'Unarchived' log.
