Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Found this one whilst traveling back through Launceston after working in the north east. I didn’t have my gps on me and I wasn’t going to lay down on the concrete so I took a photo of my leg and foot with the marker. TFTTP Clan Cerberus

Came here today after the GC event at punchbowl thought it was a good opportunity to knock of some gc & gca caches

It was getting late but that didnt stop me and goose caching and after finding a GC not far from here I discovered this trig.

This is my 100th trigpoint find, a great little tower but no views tonight as it was a tad dark.

We should have warned the locals since we were up here with you know 'Lookout Launceston'

Last GCA find in Tassie. Thanks for making it a great adventure my fellow COs and cachers. I know I've just attempted the tip of the tip of the iceberg, which means I'll certainly have to come back again. As for the trig, good view but not the most spectacular of trigs around. But I'll take it!

Quick find here. Good thing as the 'other' cache was a DNF.

Interesting spot that seems pretty much abandoned these days.

Another trig point imitating a survey mark masquerading as a lookout. We came here some time ago cache hunting but never bothered to climb the steps. We're glad we did as there was a wonderful view to enjoy.

We have driven past this location many times, and even found a cache very close by, but we did not realise until this cache was published, that the lookout was actually a trig point. Thanks TeamSwampy for arranging for this one to be added to the list of State Trig Points in Tasmania. The required photo (composite of three images) has been added to the Gallery.

Found this one on my way home from work in the city.
Pictures a little dark as it was already getting late.
