Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

 Additonal Information

This trig doesn't have a beacon or a metal disc. What you are looking for is a steel post concreted into the ground with an old wooden cable drum placed with the post through the centre hole. It drum and post have been painted  but if you list the drum, you can see the remains of the original white and red paint.

Access is from Fort Direction Road vicinity S43 02.068 E147 24.703.

Thanks for the trig, and for bringing me here. GZ is now just the centre of a fascinating labyrinth, the pathway of which has been well gravelled, obfuscating the marker pin. Still, a great place to visit with excellent views, virtually 360°

What a different and intriguing trig. Slogged my way up the hill which proved to be a tiring experience at the end of a long day of caching.
So needless to say I didn't walk the 0.7 of a km to get to GZ but went straight across. The stick in the middle is gone now but the pile of rocks is still there.
Best views of the South Arm up here so it is well worth the walk up.
Thanks.

Some great views from this hill

Out and about for the Clan Minotaur Summer Scavenger Series 2016/17 Clan Minotaur and snapped this whilst in the area.

Excellent view from GZ an interesting area to visit with the rock formation.

Great little spot with spectacular views. It was quite a cool afternoon but the sun was out so views all around.

Surprised that it was the middle of the maze as we imagined a biggish marker pole.

It had been several months since we had been out for a day caching and we chose South Arm as the venue. Peter thought to view the Australian geocaching site and this added a few extras to look for.
With the Australian caches, for some reason the option to download the cache data to the Garmin GPS no longer works, but even when downloading the GPX file, and copying to the GPS, it doesn’t dhow as a geocache when searching. So the only option was to record it as a waypoint.

Found this one with gooseandegg and what was an easy walk to the top. The view from up here is very good and well worth coming out this way.

SSR and I were expecting a difficult walk and were surprised at how easy it was. Finding safe parking was harder! We were stunned by the views as we reached the summit. As we reached the trig we were surprised by the surrounding Labyrinth. We did move the old cable reel/table to check underneath to make sure it wasn't hiding anything. The usual photos were taken and off we went after replacing the reel. TFTC

A lovely little walk up to the trig.
Great views all round.

A earlish visit to this location before heading home was rewarded with two surprises. Firstly, there are very unexpected and extensive views from this location. Secondly, the construction of a Labyrinth, a maze type path leading from the outside to the centre where the walker contemplates or meditates along the way for peace and personal intentions. We would not have known about the Labyrinth except for a Compass program on the ABC broadcast on 26 April 2015 which focussed on the recently constructed and dedicated Labyrinth in Centennial Park in Sydney. The Labyrinth path at South Arm is marked by stones (not the intricate paving as in Sydney) with the grass path being carefully mown. We are not aware who had built and maintains the Labyrinth at this location. A photo of the Trig Point and a section of the Labyrinth has been added to the Gallery.

Loved this trig. Someone's gone to a lot of trouble to make it interesting. mr sharnie's tribe did the right thing and followed the trail all the way to the centre, I'd have cheated and gone straight to the centre. Great views.

Mr W headed down to South Arm this morning to locate this trig and was rewarded with great views. TFTT

Went to this cache after contacting DnA! to see if they would like to go and find the Trig.
All three of us enjoyed the wee walk to the top of the hill and were "amazed" at what we found.
Sainted the cache 1411hrs.
This is what caching is all about - THE VIEWS WERE FANTASTIC!
We lingered and digested the whole panorama.
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.
