Description
This is a Q150 Survey Mark dedicated to William Pettigrew. There is NO cache container at this location.
William Pettigrew was born and schooled in Scotland where he worked as a farmer before training as a surveyor and then emigrating to Australia at the age of 23.
Pettigrew explored and mapped the coast north of Moreton Bay to the mouth of the Mary River and in 1873 constructed the Cooloola Railway. He established sawmills in Brisbane and on the banks of the Maroochy river and also ran a shipping business and built a wharf and depot at Mooloolaba.
He served as a magistrate, did three terms as an alderman and then as the Mayor of Brisbane Municipal Council. During the 1850's he supported moves to end convict transportation, encourage free immigration and achieve separation from New South Wales.
Pettigrew also helped establish Brisbane as a Municipality. Floods, fire and economic depression destroyed his business in 1893 and he was bankrupt by 1898, after which he retired to Bowen, where he is buried.
To log this cache you will need to visit this location and take a photo of yourself or GPS at or near the Survey Mark.
There are some spectacular ocean views to chose from. Nearby you will find the Monument designed as a lasting tribute to the former HMAS Brisbane which now rests on the ocean floor as an artificial reef and dive attraction.

“I reckon this one might be in a lit up park. I should visit.
It’s late and you need to get back to Brisbane.
It’s only 25 minutes away then I could head to Brisbane.
Yeh but you could visit it in daylight hours when you’re up here for the Earthcaches.
Okay, decided, let’s visit the Trig now!”
Today’s adventures included Trigpoint caches, Earthcaching, two walks while listening to John Lee Hooker, a Glasshouse Mountains 4WD track, an ol’ work buddy’s 50th birthday party. And now I’m here to see William.
It wasn’t a park with lighting so on went the head torch to get the appropriate photo. There were two small groups of muggles trying to figure out what I was doing.. nothing to see here people, just a nerd at work haha. When I was driving away I looked back and could see the two groups gathered around GZ trying to figure out what’s so interesting about it. Well, if you don’t get it straight away then you never will. Thanks William!
While finding caches & AL waypoints I was pleasantly surprised to discover this Q150 survey marker here

The weather was beautiful. Read the description and wandered around have a good look at the area and as we do not come up to the North Coast very often visited some other nearby attractions.
good place to stay away from for the rest of the month as there will be a lot of roads closed off for a festival. TFTTP GCA.
Thanks for the history lesson...
What an interesting story of William Pettigrew.
Such a windy day today so there was no trouble getting a car park nearby - most people must be staying indoors.
We can't believe this one was published nearly a month ago and is still unfound but we are very happy to claim the FTF.
Thanks for this cache.
