Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and to photograph it.

Official Code: TS5486
Official Name: Barraba Spur
Topo Map: Quorrobolong, 9132-2S
Height: off map - 446m

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of a concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape.
Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property (with permission to enter denied), or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

Access: Possibly from the north off Wallaby Gully Road; or from the east from Georges Drive. From the east you would go past TS753 - Barraba TP, @ S32° 57.967 E151° 18.501, but using GR41015180 (AusGeo66) it was not found.

Out caching with a great group of friends, we were headed for the nearby Dutchman’s stern but they kindly diverted here so I could grab this trig and the cache here. Thanks for the trig

I was out today with Mighty Minions, Team737, Banj5150 and GeoIan, visiting some of the caches along the GNW west of the Narrow Place. I'd previously found the cache here but hadn't logged the trig, so time to make amends. Many thanks for the listing.

not too sure when I found this, just found the pics on my phone

It's been ages since I logged a cache find on GCA. Visited the trig with Team Novo after finding 2 Noo caches: 125r and Dutchman's Stern. Great day out with Novo although the drizzle turned a bit heavier towards the end of the day.

Found today with crash2079 whilst in the area to get Dutchman's which is at the end of the Spur ~3kms to the south of here. Weather was ok but just started to sprinkle a bit heavier as we arrived at the trig. Got back to the car at the end of Georges Rd before the sprinkling turned to rain. Anyway onto this trig: it has the vanes and mast nearby on the ground. The mast was made of timber which is now rotting away. The nameplate is still on the pedestal which is all in pretty good condish. The blanking plate is missing from the pedestal but the three mounting bolts are still in place. It was tempting to grab one as a souvenir lol. We are getting up around 85 trig finds now. Seeking these things out is very interesting and lots of fun. TFTC and thanks to crash2079 for the fine company today.

We walked in along the GNW, parking at the National Park boundary on Georges Rd. 8.2km later we were back at the car.....
Great spot, fantastic views along the route, tree-views at the trig.

After checking out a possibly now non-existent Barraba Trig up on the 'plateau' (but I was just using a Grid Reference off a AusGeo66 formatted 2nd. edition Quorrobolong map) I headed on down to the Barraba Spur cache and this trig.
Found @ 1815, with an (discarded) wooden trig post and bent vanes nearby. Took a couple of photos and then headed on back, only to come across an upturned ute on the road. All good, but needed extra hands to get back over and out of the way home.
