Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and to photograph it.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the centre point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Access: From Oxley Highway, to the west of the trig there is a rough, narrow dirt/clay track heading up the hill from S31º 20.444' E152º 1.267', while GCookie took the Dualis up thereit is more suited to a 4wd. Nice walk tho.

I'm stoked we got to this trig today. The weather on our drive from PMQ to Walcha was rubbish - continual rain, and it seemed as though we'd have to miss this one. When we got to the firetrail, I scouted up, and talked the kids into a quick walk, the firetrail wasn't steep, and although very wet, wasn't slippery, in fact as it turns out we could have driven up in the Forester very easily, and turned around at the top too. The trig is in fine shape - it just needs more visitors!
Nearly 7 years unloved too - that is pretty cool, even by trig standards!

Replacing the earlier doubled-up "Low Head Lighthouse ST72"trig in Tasmania with the coordinates of a functional trig north of the Oxley Highway in NSW, called Rushbrook.

Knowing that I was to be in 'the area' for the WWFM Event I had looked up to see what trigs were around, and this one showed up on my Seaview map on Plum Tree Hill as a possibility and on checking SIX Maps NSW it seemed definite - TS6153. I had been listening out on Channel 7 UHF while earlier walking to Fenwick trig, and it seemed quiet enough caching wise to make a slight detour to the World Wide Flash Mob up a slippery steep track to a cleared hilltop where there was a nice concrete pedestal trig with post, vanes and intact name plate. Will add access point to 'cache' page.
It seems a few locals also enjoy the spot as I CITOed a bag of rubbish (bottles mostly). Have also posted this delightful trig as a Waymark (Australian Trig Point). +/- *FTF*
