Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ and to photograph it.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the centre point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property (without permission to access the trig being given) or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point, and how to best access it, or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

We lapped this trig around Brackendale Road, but couldn't sight it at all, so went back out to the highway and could see it from the rest area, so snapped it from there. We really need a better camera!

Heading home from QLD with LuckyL10n and this was a round trip out from Uralla. Another long distance shot that doesn't show that well, but it can be seen...

Just waiting to locate the shot, but came through after having to come off the highway when the road was blocked. Coming back in November, so may have to reshoot.

Tamworth and Amrmidale Trip March 2020. Day 5. I headed north with Fitzy_1965 along the New England Highway towards Tamworth. Today we moved north to Armidale, but no in a straight line. There was a chance to get a few GCA caches along the way.

Thanks

Without going on private property this trig can only be a long distance shot. Drove along Brackendale Road then tried at the intersection of Brackendale Road and the Oxley Highway......both fairly far off views but going past the trig on Brackendale Road and looking back turned out to be the better option. Anyway we have pics from both angles.

I saw that this cache had been found before so decided to give it a go. Upon arriving in the vicinity I couldn't see how it had been accessed so I drove around the back road and only ended up further away. Being behind schedule for dinner on the coast, I decided to grab a photo from this point and get back on the road. It's a distant shot, sorry.

After a cold night at the Walcha Rest Area I headed off before the sun rose, and got to this complete concrete pedestal trig as the sun's rays were trying to break through the low clouds. Not bright enough for good photos. The cows below weren't that curious and stayed down there. Found @ 0700.
