Description

Stony Range TS10946R

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Stony Range.

Serial number is: TS10946R.

Last Inspected on: Unknown.

Elevation is: 112 metres.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Thanks for the trig.

A quick grab with Black Bunny.

Thanks for the trig.

I'm choosing to stay close to the sea breeze today... if there will be any in this heatwave. Doing a few cases along the coast whilst exploring it. This trig was one of them.

Note: Photo didn't load with log through app. Photo lost.

Thought I saw a trig coming up the hill, then it disappeared. Parked in Wentworth Cottage Park to check it out. Looked like a trig to me. After checking the map, this was it.

A nice easy find, but these type of trig usually are.

Late this afternoon we visited the Stony Range Reservoir and located the trig point beacon on the top along with a range of communication antennas. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: Mrs y'stassie in the foreground with the trig point behind; a closer view of the trig point beacon. In both photos, the trig point beacon has been circled in red. Thanks for the cache.

#GA2793 - 11:55; Day seven of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune and after a night in Sydney we were heading closer to home as we cached south through to Wollongong and Shellharbour before heading up Macquarie Pass to the highway home. After a few stops on the way through the suburbs, we then managed to find twenty one of twenty three caches in the Princes Highway Puzzles series, as well as a few trigs and other caches as we made our way towards Wollongong. Gave the 'gong a miss today and headed straight to Shellharbour and this trig so that Sdl could add another dragonZone to his tally. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Think this one is listed under a different name as well, but couldn't find it? Is very easy visible from the highway, but hard when close to the reserve.

Found today with my bestest friend in the whole wide world. A bit difficult to find on top of the reservoir.

Found today with friend, a bit hard to see as the top of the reservoir is very cluttered but from the right angle in the park the trig can be clearly seen.
