Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

We were headed home after a 4 day drive around southern NSW chasing LGAs, grabbed what trigs we could get to.
A test-line! Smile
We noted the high grass, so decided to go to #3 where access looked better - then noted the access track between all 6 trigs, so went back to the car and drove them in order. Muddy and grassy, so not for 2WD (maybe a ute in the dry) - a fun little drive. I sent Samuel out to take the pics, so didn't even get out of the car!

trigs galore

Got up at dawn to go find some trigs this morning while the rest of the crew snoozed on prior to our day at the zoo. A bonus six trigs all in a row? Sure why not?! They were not so easy to get to from the road due to the unusually high lupins and grass so I used the two nearby perpendicular cross roads to access the fire trail which links them up. They are all in good condition, all retaining their baseline sight contraption and instrument base. It is amazing how they all seem to be in PERFECT line, although its hard to tell due to the undulation between them. TFTCs!

While staying in nearby Narromine we wandered around central Dubbo this morning heading for some of the many GCA caches to be found.

The easiest six trigs we have ever found. We found a little dirt track which took us directly to each one.

Many thanks for these trigs Geocaching Australia

Day 3 of our journey to Alexandra. Left Nanango Qld on Monday and stayed overnight in Moree. Left Moree early on Tuesday and now it is Wednesday and we are staying in Dubbo till Friday. Collecting GCA hides on the way south as this is the perfect time for me to increase my finds for GCA and my Dragon Zone points. Saw this one from the highway and found a track that took me up to it. Then I followed the track to the rest of the base line trig points. TFTT GCA. Clan MinotaurVery HappyClappingDancingClan Minotaur

#GA1628 - 12:58; Day 30 of the Alice Mega Road Trip with Sol de lune, albida33 and fitzy_1965. Today was a shorter run from Nyngan to Nevertire, Warren, Trangie, Narromine and on to Dubbo before heading to Parkes for the night. Sdl and I decided to spend the rest of the day in and around Dubbo and left our fellow cachers in Narromine. This was our fourth stop as we drove along the track and collected the six trigs which make up the Dubbo Baseline. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

This was very hard series to complete – had to take the photos from the side of the road – after the recent rains even pulling off the road you could get stuck – so did my best – only completed 4 off the series - thanks

Spotted all 6 trigs but access was nigh impossible. So much rain lately meant that roadside parking was not an option. Could see wheel marks in the long grass running alongside them but that wasn't an option either in the campervan.
We managed distance photos of 2 of them. For this one we drove up a driveway but the long wet grass was under about 3 or 4 inches of water and mud so our long distance shot is taken from the driveway. Thanks.

Found Very Happy Made a trip Dubbo and went cache and Trig hunting. Didn't know one could see so many Trig Points clustered together until now. A great day had by all. Hopefully my photos are attached to the correct TP.

There are actually 6 trig markers in a row, with about 750m between all of them.
The Dubbo Baseline is a series of trig markers used by surveyors to check/calibrate their equipment regularly or after service/ repairs. There are numerous baselines or test lines throughout the state for this purpose. These sets of trigs must be checked and certified every two years and the accuracy is +/- 1.2 mm for the distances between them.

It's true. 5 in a row. And they really are trigs.
