Description

Ovens Old TS?

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Ovens Old.

Serial number is: TS not allocated.

Last Inspected on: December 1, 1993.

Elevation is: 1275 metres.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

I figured I go for another trigging day west.
As I completed a trig near Bathurst, I wanted a good lunch spot & as it was the weekend all the parks in the area were very busy with weekend sports. So, I did the travel out here to complete this 1. As I logged the ovens trig on the 19-Mar-2014 I wanted to return & complete this 1 & have lunch in a peaceful spot with a view.
I’m very glad as after I had lunch I returned to Bathurst & to the race track area & for what ever reason was unable to complete as part of the track was closed due to an event & too many muggles around.
So, completing this 1 & the trip up here – for me a great lunch spot – (it was a little further down the track as the track looks to end), all the boxes were ticked - – nice to complete – many thanks Clan GriffinClan Griffin

Another visit to this remarkable hilltop accompanying Rogerw3 in discovery mode for the local trigs and particularly for this Old Trig site. The 'new' is a grand square structure but it was with deep surprise to be shown the circular Old within a metre or so. It was an eye-opener education in many ways ... thank you Roger!

Found today on a Trig hunt with Whitemushroom, great spot with great views, always nice to find the remain of an old trig, very unusual to find this one, the pin is down the hole in the murky water, I could feel it but we did not have the means to remove the water! There was still a bit of snow around.
