The Trig plug is a bottle in a concrete pad.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

An amazing find, and a tip of the hat to the Mushroom and ASO for the recent FTF!
rogerw3 and I had a good idea where the old hidden 'bottle pin' was located, but it sure took some finding. Congrats to rogerw3 for digging and persevering . . .
Don't see many 'bottle trigs' around, but this one isn't entirely unique. There are a few others, according to rogerw3.
We replaced the debris as we found it, as protection for the fragile pin, from future visitors to the site.
Lots of fun!
5 Thumbs Up for the adventure & unusual nature of the find . . .
This was recovered with dirt to protect it as best as possible.
All Strung Out began a dig, removing topsoil and small rocks with the 'mushroom continuing with further extraction of black soiL, widening the hole and removing some tree root. At a discouraging depth another fossick around the trig site was made ... with ASO returning to continue the 'dig'. Moments later a joyous (for the 'mushroom's ears) 'Found it!'
Set within concrete was the top rim of a bottle ... clear glass and unbroken ... and with further soil extraction a clearly defined trig station ... Wolgan Gap Old exposed again since 1978.
After the mandatory photos this glass trig point was carefully re entombed.
Thanks go to All Strung Out's Greg Findlay for his council trained determined 'excavator' skills and willingness to help in the seek.
A Note of Thanks go to rogerw3 (Roger Welsch) for the education provided and the insight gained a few days previous while seeking three other Old - Ovens, Stony, Yeltholme. Roger's knowledge and providing the detail required for the discovery of this 'rare' buried bottle trig point is appreciated.
