Description
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station and photograph the GZ.
Official Code: TS5335
Official Name: Smoky Cape Lighthouse
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It may also be accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself. In this case the aim point for the trig (and photo) is the top of the lighthouse.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape.
Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.
If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.
Access: Lighthouse Road comes in from the 'west' from Arakoon Rd when heading to South West Rocks.

Nevertheless we managed to make it to the top and enjoy the lighthouse and the view. interesting to see that it is the highest lighthouse in NSW. Explains the steep climb I suppose. The cabins for rent would be interesting. I guess you would want to stock up to reduce the number of times you had to walk from the car up to the cabin.
Magnificent views and the lighthouse is well worth the steep ascent. Saw some whales in the distance. Definitely earns our pick for trig of the day

The views were awesome and the passing whales were putting on a pretty good display as they passed today.
Thanks.

The wind had picked up an hour before and the wedding had to be relocated to a more sheltered spot and it was really blowing when I took the stroll while the photographs were being take.
Loved the views from on top and on the walk up. We had spent some time before the wedding watching the whales off shore.
Another one of the lovely spots to visit in a great area.
Easy access on sealed road all the way. About to go check out the camp site just down the road I passed on the way in.
