A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

found my first trig while going to find a gc geocache

26-Jul-20
headed out with Outdoornut22 to bag a few quick trigs on a very rainy day but we needed to get out of the house, got up close to this one bit weird that it wasn't on any form of high point

While it was bucketing down with rain today both myself and Sophoutloud needed a good excuse to get out of the house, we plotted some more urban trigs that were close to road ways so we didn't have to spend to much time out in the rain. found this one nice and easy definitely looks like a rough move from a development block and weird that its not even at a high point Clan MinotaurClan Minotaur

On an extremely hot sickly day there was not much else to do besides computer or the box so I went for a drive & completed roadside virtual & trigs – this was 1 of them in the greater area.
Walking down it was ok but the walk up in the heat was interesting – air con in car switched on straight away – many thanks for the view. Clan GriffinClan Griffin

With all the road works going on I wasn't sure if i could find my way to this trig, but somehow I drove to the bottom of some steps that led straight to it. TFTT

#GA2278 - 12:30; When the States of the Nation game began, a plan was hatched for a group of ACT cachers to take a trip north to the Hawkesbury on a scavenger raid. As time passed the group's numbers dwindled, but with a bit of work solving puzzles and a few things rescheduled, our merry band comprising andrewbt, Sol de lune and I set off on a damp Canberra morning to try our hand. A recent visit to Canberra by cachers from this area provided an added incentive, so we could repay the karma points we gained from their visit. A successful day it turned out to be with 56 finds and only three DNFs. Stopped across the road to bag a trig on a water tank, then wandered across the road to grab the snaps needed for this one. Visiting family in Sydney and found some trigs too. TFTC.

Based on whitmushroom's log I thought this might be tough to find in the rough, but nothing could be further from what I found. This area has been transformed into a beautifully manicured rock garden and lawn area, now that this portion of development was over. No name plate on this one but all in good nick.

On a trig wandering day with rogerw3 ...

Located somewhat hidden from the construction zone in a grassy overgrowth ... new and already showing signs of wear, the grass will win eventually, methinks.

Out with Team Merlin finding a few local GA trigs. Photo captured and onto the next.

24-Feb-16
Out with JJCC doing a cache run around the area picking up two GC traditional caches, six GA trigs plus another two GA DNFs. As we were passing we parked th ecar at the bottom of th ehill and walked up the new stairs towards GZ. Positioning ourselves for a clear view of the trig we took a photo before continuing on our journey. Interestingly in the attached photo you can see all of the development were the old trig "Belmont" http://geocaching.com.au/cache/tp5500 once was.

After meeting up with Lucky1955 to do a few caches I struck off on my own to pick up a few more. Nice quick run down the path & grab a photo.

Saw this on the map and wondered how long it had been here.

11-Jan-16
I was on my way to Grose Vale with my family for a barbeque at a friend's house when we passed by this trig. I didn't stop on the way (I hate being late for anything), but made a mental note to stop on the way home.

Jump forward to much later in the day, we were on the way home & pulled over for an easy find.

Are we really sure this is a new trig, and not the old one with the vanes removed?

On a short days outing between rain showers I managed to take a happy snap of this recently installed Trig Station whilst looking at Richmond North and Belmont Trigs

created this listing when I realised it had not previously been logged so a *FTF* for me as well
