Description

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station and photograph the GZ.

Official Code: TS12083R
Official Name: Kingscliff GPS

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

Trig points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance, elevation, and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps. The CORS network allows adjustments to be made to the readings taken by surveyors, to offset atmospheric differences, thus allowing much more accurate, and quick measurements.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property, and permission to photograph it is not forthcoming, or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably.

Access: Just a simple walk to beside the pumping station, and it is UP there, beside another antenae.

This council building is tucked away out of sight here. Still, the cors was nice and prominent at the front.

Soph out loud and I are on a bit of a road trip on our way to Lennox Head for a conference, it gave us an excuse to have a mini holiday and take a few days to get there. So for us that always means finding caches and trigs on our travels. This trip so far has been great as we have had the chance to visit a bunch of beautiful Northern New South Wales Beach towns. Being the off season they have been pretty quiet and even though it is June, much warmer than at home in the Hawkesbury. We have been spending a time travelling slowly between a bunch of beach towns we have not spent time in along the New South Wales North Coast and it has been quite a treat. we stopped in Kings cliff for some lunch and saw a couple of trigs were near by and ventured out to grab them, they were nice and easy to get to in very urban areas

I have been past this location many times but kept forgetting to get the photo until today while out scouting AL locations

On our caching afternoon from Pottsville to Kingscliff. It soon became obvious we weren't going to get everything done, so we scrapped the GC trads, and stuck to ALs, trigs and GCA trads, which turned into a great afternoon. We'll be back - the trig testline didn't get into the GPSr for some reason!

On another coastal area for a pre-work mini-adventure. Quiet here today which is why I try to visit these locations on a weekday. I got a great image of the most Easterly QLD / NSW Border marker for my Flickr image collection, the 9 Trig point caches in this area and as a bonus, a GCA Locationless find and a cool Waymark… and it all started with this CORS find! Thanks for the cache Smile

I found the Kingscliff CORS whilst driving up to Brisbane to visit my daughter. I am happy to have found a few caches today. There is quite some distance between them. The CORS was easy to find and photograph. It was getting late in the day near sunset. Now it's time to rest and enjoy. Thanks for the trig.

I parked in a weird spot in order to get this shot.

Wondered where we were going to find a CORS here in what looked like a residential area but suddenly came across a council owned building.
The early morning sun wasn't very helpful in trying to get a photo here but the CORS is the antenna on the left.
Thanks.

just going for a drive

Note: Photo didn't load with log through app. Photo lost.

Out finding some caches for the Journey or Destination game and the Kingscliff/Cudgen/Hastings Point area gave us plenty. If we needed stealth to find a CORS then we couldn't have struck it any luckier than here. No one, not a single solitary other human being anywhere. Yeah, just when it doesn't matter you get it. After completing the trig line on the beach, I headed south to grab this trig that I keep forgetting about. Such a nice day today, so I took the customary photo, and headed north to meet up with geono, for some beach time. A beautiful day on the north coast again today.

#GA2734 - 10:10; Day five of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune. After a night in Ballina, the plan for today was to cache northward through Ballina to Byron Bay and then on to Kingscliff before turning south for home through Bangalow, Evans Head, New Italy, Yamba, Maclean and on to Kempsey for another overnight stay. After an early start, we hadn't gone far up the road when we saw evidence of a heavy shower not too long before we got there, so we seem to have dodged a bullet and got packed up with fairly dry gear. Following a successful run through to Cape Byron, we continued our journey along some interesting and at times rather rough roads before getting to the highway and on to Brunswick Heads. After our visit there, it was back down to the highway and on to Kingscliff so I could grab this testline (yes, another one!), which Sdl had picked up on a previous visit. After completing the testline and grabbing some breakfast we made our way to this CORS on the way back out of town. TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

This morning we located the Tweed CORS. The required photo has been added to the Gallery. Thanks for the cache.

This cache is right near one of my favourite hidden spots on the Tweed Coast, so I'd probably been there several times since the trig was published. I am grateful for the previous finder who gave me clues on where to look. If you didn't know what it was you'd probably ignore it. But I do know now what it is and what it represents is very interesting. Imagine if the early explorers and surveyors had it.

Thanks for the trig.

I had noticed this 'trig' while scouting out SIX Maps NSW a while ago, and added the code and coordinates to my 'database' of trigs to check out (and weren't already on the GCA listings). Stopped in the parking area for the local walking track, and soon found my way beside the pumping station, and sure enough, there was the CORS device sitting on the edge of the roof. Took a photo, and then headed on to other trigs.
