Description

Abermain TS10959R

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Abermain

Serial number is: TS10959R

This is a water reservoir trigpoint, accessable via Albury Street.  You can drive right up to the side of the reservoir, but best views of the trig are from a little distance back.

A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to access.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on 'Log this Cache' and placing an 'Archived' log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty/terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

#GA2665 - 13:15; Day three of the 2018 Oz GeoMuster mission with Sol de lune. After a day hitting the geoart trail put out for the muster with Sdl and albida33 yesterday, today was all about finding GCA caches and perhaps picking up a dragonZone or two in the process. The plan for the day was to start in Morisset (naturally enough), work our way around Lake Macquarie and in to Newcastle, then on to Maitland and Abermain before heading back to camp. There had been a change of plans when there was a heavy overnight fog which left our tarps quite wet, so we decided to hit the trail, then return to camp to collect our swags once things had dried out later in the day, before heading for points north. We had finished collecting trigs around the lake, the suburbs of Newcastle, Maitland and had now reached Abermain, the furthest and last point on our morning circuit. Grabbed a snap of the trig as well as the GC trad around the back. Time to head back and pack up camp! TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

Day three of an Easter trip with LuckyL10n to the 2018 Morisset Mega. Headed up via the northern beach suburbs of Sydney to grab a few trigs and dragonZones along the way. From there it was a trip around the lake to find a good assortment of trigs. A great day out while heading further north.

No problems with this one and the trig was soon snapped.

Another trig and another dragonZone crossed off. Thanks for the fun....

With the trig marker appearing to be in the middle of the water tank it was hard to get a decent photo here. In our photo the marker is directly above the GPS in Mr Beetle's hand.
Some of the graffiti on the tank was quite good and we have also included a photo - Is that a beetle?
Thanks.

While in the Hunter Valley region to get a souvenir for the weekend I noticed that I hadn't logged this Trig Point, despite having found the nearby cache back in 2013. So might as well drive on up and get a photo. Would have been a bit easier with someone else to get the 'selfie', so ended up with just my thumb in view for that shot. Found @ 1535
Thanks Toriaz.

FTF for Bedawn and me!

We were in this area for the GC cache "I'm Thirsty" and spotted the trig as we drove up.

Looked up the site & found no one had listed this one yet.

Very easy to spot!
