Description

Bathurst Flag Staff TS12246F

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Bathurst Flag Staff.

Serial number is: TS12246F.

Last inspected on: No Data.

Elevation is: 665 meters.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

#GA2423 - 14:05; Day five, the last day of the summer sojourn in the Blue Mountains with the geohoney. After an enjoyable few days based in Leura, the time had come to pack up and head for home. It was also time to do one last quick caching run around the area while the other half finished getting ready for the trip. After collecting some caches in Leura and doing a sweep through Wentworth Falls, we were now packed up and headed for home the back way through Bathurst, Orange and Canowindra with a view to adding a few caches as well as a few dragonZones to the tally. After reaching Bathurst we headed off to have a look at the Mount Panorama circuit, stopping for some trigs along the way as well as at the top of the mountain Dancing The fun part dealt with, it was back into the town for a few more stops including the two cathedrals, then on to this trig. It also proved to be a handy pitstop in more ways than one Think TFTT Geocaching Australia Very HappyClan Cerberus

A Bathurst surrounds trig hunt day with master navigator rogerw3.

A decidedly impressive structure and memorial in tidy grounds ... very much worth the stop, view and wander.

In town for a wedding this lovely rainy Monday. Caught the first bit if blue sky seen all day in this shot. The flag pole actually appeared to be a little crooked. I think my camera made out look worse.

A different looking trig! Photograph attached.

Another city invaders log here. Was surprised to see this amazingly obvious trig point had yet to be logged! One of the best trigs ever, but maybe even cooler for me was the State Survey Marker with the extra special number SS18152015 (to commemorate Bathurst's bicentenary).

28-Feb-16
One of those incognito trigs! We were told at the Geocaching NSW Bathurst Invasion event there was a trig in Peace Park, the same location as the event. After the event we went with Graeme Cookie to find it. This trig is in a beautiful and interesting location.

28-Feb-16
I had this trig on my GSAK data base from July last year, to check out if I ever got out to this region. So I wasn't too surprised when I saw it published; but I was surprised that it hadn't been found by the time of the Bathurst Invasion Event put on by the Geocaching NSW organisers. I had already checked it on arriving, but wanted to get to the Event before it ended.
Came back a bit later with geono to get a small group photo.

I think Team MavEtJu's log should be dated the 27th as they came for the dinner before heading back to Sydney, and I found it today so I guess a joint 2TF for the 2 of us today. Nice and easy, it's quite visible. With some nice historical information around it as well. Not sure how useful it is as a trig with the trees around it though.

27-Feb-16
We are on our way from Caringbah (Sutherland area) to Bathurst to meet friends for dinner tonight. The first cache wasn't attempted until Lithgow so we actually arrived on time. Thanks to GeocachingNSW for the Invasion event!

This one isn't hard to find at all: It's in the middle of Bathurst, on an higher point, near a park, a river and and swimmingpool. You cannot miss it, it's *there*, it's high and it has some nice history stuff there.

Oh, FTF Smile
