Description

Kilfenora TS10173

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Kilfenora

Serial number is: TS10173.

Last inspected on: February 13, 1976.

Elevation is: 888 meters.

Concrete pillar with mast and vanes.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Ah this one was a bit easier to get to than most of the previous ones we'd sought out today. It is in good condition and in tact even though it sits boldly right here in the open in suburbia. TFTC!

A big day of caching between Orange and Wellington and back. Great weather, able to squeeze in a parkrun as well and caches were all found straight forward.

Geocaching Australia (GCA) Cache Find Number 1329. Found during a run up to the Oberon, Bathurst and Orange regions with minniek.

A weekend run up through the Oberon, Bathurst and Orange regions to tackle a number of puzzle series, lots of trads, plus a number of trigs as well. Although there were a number of DNFs, in all the caches were nicely placed with good coords. Glorious weather certainly added to a very fun weekend. An early departure with a few quick stops along the way saw us soon at Oberon to start the campaign in ernest. Once that area was cleaned up we headed north to Bathurst and Orange. Driving around the back roads we came to this one. Another trig in the distance shot. Once near the trig of course it was a quick stop for the required photos, admired the views, then it was off to the next one. Photo of the trig attached.

Another nice trig to add to the collection. Really enjoy finding these in all sorts of odd places, including the new CORS type which seem to be popping up in every country town plus the big cities.

TFTC !!

On an Orange surrounds trig hunt with rogerw3 in Wintery conditions ...

Into the suburbs - and this area is in the process of becoming a new estate - for a short walk uphill. 'Tis an odd trig with vane and mast intact, but no apparent name plate ... but also the plinth does appear to have been reset on on its concrete platform, and seems visually askew.

Orange Trip 2016. On may way to Orange I stopped by to see this Trig.

Thanks

Found this on six maps and decided to check it out. Only one out of three possible new trigs in Orange that are GCA worthy. The location I've taken my photo from is probably the closest, and that only for a short time longer, you can legally get now as they have fenced off the area for a subdivision. It is still quite close to the road and easy to spot - much much closer than a lot of trig logs I've seen.
