Description

Jervis Bay Lighthouse Old TS10099

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Jervis Bay Lighthouse Old.

Serial number is: TS10099.

Last inspected on: No Data.

Elevation is: 28 meters.

The remains of the barrel of the old lighthouse is still classified as a passive trig, probably only for historical value.

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Staying in the area for a couple of days playing tourist. Wasn't really planning on finding any heocaches, but these technically aren't, or are they? Anyway I found this light house and trig point. Got me a photo as Proof.

Gorgeous day and gorgeous views here.

Well worth the drive along the trails. Great historical site.

After a drive around the area we arrived here near sunset and really enjoyed the area at dusk. There is not too much left here now.
Made sure we left the area before all the light was gone.

Out on the hunt for more points in the current game. Travelling with Sol de Lune today on what turned out to be a very long day. Thanks for organising , driving and your company. Especially your patience while I traipsed along behind especially on those long uphill climbs at times. The last one standing in the rain waiting five minutes for me to arrive. Never been down here before - wonderful views and history. Fabulous!

Next stop in the National Park and the required photo was soon snapped. Not much left of the old lighthouse now....

We have seen and photographed this a few times as we like visiting the area and camping at Greenpatch. The last visit here was in May 2017. It's good to see the old ruins have been preserved. TFTT

2 for 1 here again. One photo qualifying for 2 GCA finds!
Spent some time wandering around checking out the ruins. Particularly interesting was the tragedies that occurred amongst the residents of the lighthouse here.
Whales were passing too so got good value out of the $11 entry fee.
Thanks.

Found during a work trip to the region.

I've been out to this lighthouse several times before, this trip was for the trig and as it turned out a virtual as well.

This is definitely one of the more interesting trigs I've photographed, mainly due to the excellent views and interesting history of the area.

Waymarked this lighthouse in 2012 but have been here at other times. My Waymark description in part was:

Cape St George Lighthouse is of historical importance particularly because of the bungling surrounding its construction. The relevant authority, the Pilots Board, was not consulted about its construction. Had they been it is almost certain the lighthouse would have been constructed at Point Perpendicular, where a replacement was built in 1889.

On a Jervis Bay trig seek with rogerw3 ...

At the far end of the Booderee reserve grounds on a drive along reasonably good tracks to the parking area and then a short walk up to the remains of this old lighthouse (deliberately blown up!). The base building and its signposted rooms are in good viewing condition but there is scant left of the circular tower ... the large sandstone building blocks a swathe of toppled ruin are in place where fallen.

An easy find with whitemushroom even in the rain, which was good since we had the place to ourselves. Quite interesting we were both surprised to find out that the lighthouse had been deliberately blown up!

A lovely area even if you have to pay the ACT National Parks to get in. Tele shot of the lighthouse in the mist from Murrays Hill Trig.
