Description

Murrays Hill TS5091

Official name of this Trig Station as per NSW Department of Lands is: Murrays Hill.

Serial number is: TS5091.

Last inspected on: March 13, 1984.

Elevation is: 75 meters.

The mark is described as "circle of concrete in a steel ring". There is a very feint impression of the usual triangle in the center quite worn out and barely there!

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Walked up from the Murrays Beach car park and had planed on walking the loop back to the car park, however there was a storm coming in from the west so only went as far as the trig then returned. Nice 360 degree views from the top. TFTC.

Out on the hunt for more points in the current game. Travelling with Sol de Lune today on what turned out to be a very long day. Thanks for organising , driving and your company. Especially your patience while I traipsed along behind especially on those long uphill climbs at times. The last one standing in the rain waiting five minutes for me to arrive. This was another that I didn't think I would make - this our last. It was about a 5 km return trip when I had really had almost enough. Couldn't get that close and not make it. Thanks Sol. DancingClappingDancingClappingDancingClapping Great views. Worth more points for the sense of accomplishment for this Granny.

Last find with Smittengranny on our day trip to this part of the coast.....and a neat 5klm coastal walk to this trig to finish the day. A bit or rain about however that made it a bit cooler. Great views from the top of the little hill...

Walked the Murray's Trail today from the Murrays Beach carpark, this way & back around. Found the path up & soon after was at the circle & enjoying the fine views in all directions. The whitest sands in the world at Hyams Beach to the west, the two lighthouses, the bush & ocean. A SSM as well so all good.

On a Jervis Bay trig seek with rogerw3 ...

A easy walk in from the gate on the Murrays Hill track ... a first view of the likely GZ had thoughts of a rugged bush bash and seek. rogerw3 had a tad more nous and with more faith than the 'mushroom sought out a 'track' up that led across some well weathered rock formations.

Further in, and screened by the thickish undergrowth, came a chortle of delight as rogerw3 discovered this unusual trig design/layout. The old surveyors who set this one in place deserve credit - it could not have been an easy fit.
Surrounding the trig plate are located various anchor/marker points and nearby a well set SSM.

The encroaching scrub has blocked the stunning views that surround this trig site but it takes only a few steps to take in.

A very unusual find with whitemushroom, an easy walk from the gate along a good service road. If you look hard enough you will find an old track to take you to the top of the hill and the trig, otherwise it will be a tough bush bash!

The view from the top is quite breathtaking and you can clearly see several local trigs from there.
