Description
Bankstown EDM Testline - PM58055
The Surveying and Spatial Information Regulation 2012 requires surveyors to verify their Electronic Distance Measuring (EDM) equipment in relation to the State Primary Standard of measurement, in the form of pillared testlines or baselines, at least once each year and immediately after service and repair.
The Bankstown EDM Testline is a set of four trig points: PM58055-PM58058. The distance between the first and last one is 605.010 meters +/- 0.5 mm.
This information was obtained from http://www.lpi.nsw.gov.au/surveying/surveying_services/edm_baseline_certificates.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and/or yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

Decided to target this nice cluster of trigs on the Bankstown testline. I parked in Buist St and was pleasently surprised at the nice park that greeted me and the well maintained trig standing proud on the egde of the football(?) field. This one has had a facelift since the last find. It looks like he has a new coat of white paint and his top hat Is absent. I have photographed the top to show you what I mean. Interesting to read what these are used for and just how precise the distances between these pillars are measured to. Last certification has the measurement uncertainty at a fraction of a millimetre! Snapped the required photos and now iff to find the next one, hope they are all this easy!
Thanks for the cache Geocaching Australia
GCA Find #168
Hoping this find will move me one step closer to the destination, be that either the blue tile or my goal of 100 trigs!
βIt is sometimes said [citation needed] that the game of geocaching is not about the destination it is about the journey. This game is about the choices you make in the experience of the journey or the destination.β Find # 6 Journey or Destination games.
