Description
Standard Survey Mark "BD4B"
IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU DO THIS ONE IN THE COMPANY OF ANOTHER ADULT
A Trig Point is a virtual cache which requires a cacher to locate the Trigonometric Station at GZ.
A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.
Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.
These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.
To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.
Description: DO NOT PARK NEXT TO THE TRIG - IT IS DANGEROUS and ILLEGAL to park there. Park somewhere sensible and walk or cycle to GZ
Best done with a partner to watch for traffic.
WARNING:TRAFFIC HAZARD
The difficulty level is due to the traffic factor ... it is highly recommended that you do this one in company of another adult who can monitor the traffic. The trig is well off the road, but visibility can be poor for drivers and a dangerous set of circumstances could arise if a bicycle were to approach at the same time as any other vehicle while you are bent over the trig.

Logs
On another note, it is great to know that there is another active GCA cacher living in Dunedin!
In NZ on holiday, I have created a LOC file containing all survey marks in the LINZ Geodetic database - potentially a gold mine of information for triggers visiting NZ ... but needs a couple of fields added to make it a bit more user friendly. I will share it with other cachers when I have made these enhancements. In the meantime, if anyone reading this log would like a copy of the current version, contact me directly.
Had to lift the cover to get a pic of this one while my muggle wife looked on ... note the warnings in the description. This is best done in the company of another adult.
